#247I am going to wait until the line ups come out until i make a decision on this game. Latos has been ridiculous lately but he did struggle a bit with the Dodgers at the Chavez.Comment -

#2486 of the 8 hitters are lefties for the Dodgers today. With the addition of Scotty Pod, I think that him and Furcal can create some problems for Latos. No opinion on the total except I would lean over.

#257Hey dodger33, what do you think of you guys chance of winning NL west this year? Is it completely safe to say that only Padres and Giants have a chance at NL west this year? I just can't see myself Dodgers winning NL west with all the problems they have in bullpen and their back end of the rotation starters. We can rule out Rockies at this point with their recent downfall.Comment -

#259You can never rule the Rockies out. They always seem to catch fire towards the end of the season. With Tulo back they could start winning games at a very fast rate again.
Giants have been hanging around all year long and with the addition of Posey their line up is not so weak anymore. With Lincecum and Cain at the top of that rotation they are dangerous.
Dodgers have probably the toughest schedule left in that division. If they can get Manny back quickly and their pitching can keep up its recent success they have as good as chance as anyone in the division.
And now the Padres... My opinion may be a bit biased but by no means is this a stretch. The Padres are a younger team and younger teams get tired as the year wears down on them. Especially their young pitching. Some of these guys haven't pitched this many innings before. I think fatigue is going to set in and you will see starting in August the Padres are going to start to slowly fade off. Arm injuries are not going to be "unlucky" or a "fluke". Be careful in betting them in "futures". They are hitting out of their elements right now and when times get tough they are going to sink fast. Teams do not stay as hot as they have been all year. It just doesn't happen. Their flash in the pan has lasted longer than I thought but August is their D-Day. My guess is they will not be leading the west after August. I cannot tell you who it is going to be but it wont be them.
I would be interested to see other peoples opinions on this.Comment -

#260Good analysis man. Yeah, I was thinking about doing future bet with Padres and Giants to win the NL west. Looking at the odds, if I bet on both of them and if either one of them win, I make money either way. Honestly, I just can't see Padres falling too much. They might not win the NL west. But, I think they will stick around and even if they lose it will only be out for a few games. Their starters are good / their bullpen is the best in the major league and they play in a friendly pitcher park. Granted their line up is full of triple A players, but somehow they keep winning. I am not Padres fan by any means but it's very hard for me to bet against them. I keep waiting for them to fall off, they keep proving me wrong and keep winning game. And they are still in first place...Comment -

#262John Garland (ace)'nt - Heard an interesting stat from Vinny the other night. Allows half of his runs in the first 3 innings. He cannot keep this up. His sinker did look pretty nasty two nights ago but with him as the ace I would be worried if I was a Padre fan.
Latos - Threw 50 innings last year in the bigs. Mark my word he will fade off.
Kevin (5 era) Correia - Well if he keeps that up that sure won't help them much
Clayon Richard - Is already at 130 innings his previous high in the MLB was 80. He too is fading fast
Wade LeBlanc - Previous high of 46 innings in the MLB. Currently at 104. He will wear down soon
Their Triple A team cannot keep hitting the way they are. They can't stay this hot the whole season.Comment -

2009 Aug. to Oct. record: 33 - 25 (57%)
If the Pads can muster a similar winning % for this year's Aug. to Oct. months, and let's assume they lose this game, and next two remaining July games against the Marlins, then they could still end up winning at least 93 games this season. 93 games is enough to win this division this year, imo.
So, what I'm saying is that last year, they ended pretty strong, and I don't see why they couldn't repeat this year.

#270Either roids or injury. The dude is really killing the Dodgers this year. He has easily cost them 5 games that I can remember. Probably more like 10 though. How can you bring in a guy with a 7 era into a tied game in the bottom of the 9th. I mean law of averages says he gives up a run every inning!Comment -

#271hey d, i was thinking the same thing when i saw sherill come out. game over. i heard they might send him back to the minors. i remember last year when he single handedly ruined the playoffs against the phils.
i like your analysis. i think the giants will win the west. they are hitting and pitching better right now than anyone in the west, except their pen is a little shaky.
i think once pods get situated the dodgers will have a scary 1-2 combo at the top of the order. it will give pitchers headaches keeping them on the bases.Comment -

I just looked at the scores, and I noticed that since the All-Star game, both the Giants and Padres pitching have been averaging the same number of 3.3 runs per game, so I would say that both teams' pitching has been pretty similar recently. Now on the offense, the Padres actually have an edge over the Giants since the All-Star game: Giants averaged 4.5 runs a game, while the Pads averaged 5.2 runs.
Anyways, both teams have been hot since the All-Star game: Padres won 75% of their games, and Giants 73% of their games!!!

#273Great info guys! Padres are pesky as ever. Scott Pod had a bases loaded 1 out shot and didn't cash in whicih cost the Dodgers the game. When you are facing a guy like Latos you have to Capitalize on opportunities.
Dodger hitting will pick it up and if they can keep pitching like this they have a great shot at the playoffs.Comment -

#274The game tonight seems to be a popular one across the board. I think the Giants win but if I had to pick a side I would take the Dodgers because they are getting great value. Lincecum has been inconsistent as hell this year and you would be a fool to lay -200 on him right now. Last time Carlos pitched the Dodger pen went 8 shutout innings into the 13th and the Dodgers won. So those of you that are betting on the Giants because he is going to turn it over to the pen you might want to think twice. Dodgers are 25-10 against the West for a reason. I think they are a great candidate for a 3 game chase. The final game of the series is Kershaw Cain. Cain in 14 starts has never beaten the Dodgers. I suggest if you take the Giants don't lay the juice play the rl because if the Giants are going to win Timmy is going to be on top of his game and they are going to score a few runs. I don't see this as a slug fest nor do i see it as a 2-1 game. My prediction is 5-3 Giants but shit does happen and if Timmy isn't on (which there is a good chance), the Dodgers will take this one because Monasterios isn't that bad.Comment -

#278hey D, so on to tonight's game. they hit timmy pretty well last time, but lost that game. i watched that game and even though broxton blew the save, they did hit timmy well. that should give them confidence going into tonight. they also only used kuo for one inning of work so he is available tonight. in fact they didnt use any of the better pen yesterday.Comment -

#279Yep everyone is hating on the Dodger pen but they have the guys they need in there right now. Broxton will be fine he is just in a funk. I like the new kid they have, Jensen. He will be a great addition to their pen.
They may not win tonight but can't pass up on the price and trust me they will not get swept. Once Furcal and Podsednik get going it is going to be a completely different team that will be scoring early and often.Comment -
