The Red Sox aren't sure which version of Dice-K they're getting since he returned from the disabled list. When he's been his old self, Matsuzaka has been tough to hit, as he was three starts ago, when he allowed one hit and walked four in eight shutout innings against the Indians. When he's struggled, however, Matsuzaka has walked too many hitters, like the eight free passes he issued versus Kansas City on May 27. Most troubling has been the lack of strikeouts. Matsuzaka has fanned more than five only twice in seven games. Luckily, his most recent outing, Wednesday against Oakland, was a seven-strikeout effort in which he got a victory despite yielding 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.
