guys like Marke Buehrle and Verlander have a very good body of work, which at the time put them nearing the conversation of Hall of very good or hall of fame.

a 3rd no no could be something to put guys like that over the top.

    does that make sense?
relax i wasnt being serious verlander is a hof no doubt and in my book guy is a hall of famer no matter what his record is getting to be with kate upton every night

This forum 😂😂 outside of roid scandal coming out, no brainier hall o famer. Cannot look at outdated win stats that don't apply as much to this generation. I'll bet anyone, any amount they'd like he will be in the hall. Cy young, MVP, ace for a trip to World Series, ace for a winning team. Longevity.

If it took Jack Morris, the pitcher of the decade in the 80s, multiple world series titles, 260 wins, till the Veterans ballot, then Verlander is not getting in.

The career statistics will not hold up to guys left out, itll be up to the analytics to get him in on a writer's ballot.

Guys like Scherzer, Waineright, Lee, Price, Mussina, Schilling, Lester, Santana, Kluber putting up similar stretches of domination and some w better career stats, thou non HOF worthy

wins? no one looks at wins anymore. Verlander has a pretty good shot at passing 260 anyways. Verlander might be part of last couple of guys from this era that is able to get over 250 wins. Might never see it again the way pitching handling has changed.

Verlander has a great shot at top 15 all time in Strike outs and outside but not too long of a shot at top 10 all time strikeouts.

    apples and oranges

Theres A LOT of guys from prior decades that are going to have a foot in the door if they strictly go by analyzing WAR and pitching analylitics.

Where you says wins are less important, I'll grant you that, but so are the strikeouts you cited. In 2006 there were 33,000 strikeouts in MLB, we are on pace for 48,000 this year. So that stat is less about the pitcher and more about the trend in team offense and priorities in putting together a lineup.

    Question then becomes....

Is he better than Schilling? Mussina? Hudson? Morris? Wainwright? Kaat?

Are his best 5 years better than Santana or Price?

    It's a tough call if he doesn't get to 250 w or 3500 kos

I don't think k he gets there btw, I see a huge drop off coming 2nd half this season. His arm angle is a little off and I don't know if he can maintain this level of fitness at 36 yrs old

Astros analytics have put him over the top. The reason he was able to get a healthy 2 year extension is because is because they transformed him into a beast again. Remember, he wasn't traded until 2 minutes before the waiver trade deadline. A lot of teams had a chance at him, but were turned off at the length of his remaining contract and his age. The Astros might not have taken him if Dallas Keuchel didn't bitch as much as he did about the lack of deals Luhnow did that trade season.

Nonetheless, I think he will be a first ballot HOF'er now. He's already in my personal HOF just for his hot wife, and his awesome Flonase commercials.

Guy has the same HOF indicator stats as Zack Greinke

Thou admittedly I'm in shock how at 37 he is getting better like Clemens and noone is questioning this....

His WAR and WHIP are going in the right direction. His KOs will be going up for years so yeah, 2 or 3 more years of like 17-10; 3:50
Really thought 2018 was the rest of his best....but he sure has a few more bullets here.

Thou...look at the comparables on the HOF indicator. A lot of B+ pitchers there....

I"m not asking the question due to his intention but if he'll actually be good enough

I can't think of too many 39 year olds or older that have comeback from a tommy john surgery at that age, other than Jamie Moyer, who threw about 72 mphs
