Walk through the streets of any of the three World Cup host nations - the United States, Canada, and Mexico - and locals are likely talking about one of two things: soccer and AI.

With 48 teams and 104 matches starting today through the final on July 19, it's simply more futbol than the human brain can fully comprehend. So in the spirit of the times I trained Claude, the advanced reasoning model from Anthropic, to offer its World Cup AI predictions for every match with exact score projections and award winners.

Below, I break down how I trained Claude to predict the entire 2026 World Cup before letting the robot take over to break down its AI picks for all 104 matches.

🤖 Our AI prediction methodology: How Claude picked every match

Follow all of our expert soccer betting analysis for the 2026 World Cup.

This isn't my first time training an AI model to predict the outcome of a major sporting event - just last month I successfully trained Claude to make its Kentucky Derby AI picks and correctly pick a 30/1 long shot to win the race. And I followed the same exhaustive training process and intense scrutiny when training this model, too.

First, I laid out the full scope of the project before instructing Claude to create a profile of all 48 teams based on a series of recent and historical markers:

  • Elo-based world ratings - the quantitative backbone, measuring the strength gap between any two sides
  • Recent form and results - the run of matches heading into June 2026
  • Live squad and injury status - who's available, and how much it changes a team's ceiling

With that baseline, I prompted Claude to create its own internal simulation model considering the historical precedent of this tournament and the best mathematical processes to factor in team strength while not strictly adhering to it. That helped Claude produce a final bracket that is neither chalk nor contrarian but guided by a throughline that sharpened its logic throughout: "if you earned $1 billion for picking every single game with the correct scoreline, what would that result be?"

⚽ World Cup AI picks: Round of 32 winners & match results

Here is a look at how Claude projects every match in the Round of 32 with score projections and brief analysis for how the match played out in our AI simulation.

  • Morocco 1-1 Netherlands (4-3 PK) — A Dutch side missing Jurriën Timber and carrying its usual big-tournament fragility can't put Morocco away, and the team that bounced Spain and Portugal in 2022 wins another shootout.
  • South Korea 2-1 Canada — Son Heung-min's quality is the difference in a tight, even match, edging a Canada side that pushes the co-host to the final whistle.
  • Germany 3-0 Czechia — Even patched together without ter Stegen in goal, Germany has far too much for a Czechia side that ran its race in the group stage.
  • Brazil 2-1 Japan — Depleted by injuries but still a level above, Brazil leans on its individual talent to see off a Japan team that makes it work.
  • France 3-0 Scotland — Kylian Mbappé scores twice and France cruises, with Scotland unable to live with the tournament favorite's pace and depth.
  • Norway 2-1 Ecuador — Erling Haaland's finishing settles a genuinely close match and nudges Norway past a stubborn Ecuador.
  • Mexico 2-1 Côte d'Ivoire — The home crowd carries Mexico through a real scare, with Côte d'Ivoire pushing the host harder than the scoreline suggests.
  • England 3-0 DR Congo — Thomas Tuchel's England, flawless all tournament, is far too organized and clinical for a DR Congo side out of its depth.
  • Senegal 2-1 Türkiye — The best of the eight third-place qualifiers backs it up, with Senegal's power and pace proving too much for Türkiye.
  • Belgium 2-0 Algeria — Belgium's experience and quality tell against an Algeria side that competes but can't find a way through.
  • Colombia 2-1 Croatia — Fresher legs win out as Colombia outruns an aging Croatia team that fades in the closing stages.
  • Spain 3-1 Austria — Spain pulls clear late, with Austria hanging in for an hour before the favorite's class takes over.
  • Switzerland 2-0 Egypt — Switzerland's organization and finishing see off a Mohamed Salah-led Egypt that never quite clicks.
  • Argentina 2-1 Uruguay — Lionel Messi settles a fierce South American derby, dragging Argentina past a Uruguay side that makes it a battle.
  • Portugal 3-1 Paraguay — Cristiano Ronaldo's last-dance run rolls on, with Portugal's attacking depth proving too much for Paraguay.
  • United States 2-1 Iran — The home crowd lifts the United States through a tense, nervy match against a well-tested Iran.

⚽ World Cup AI picks: Round of 16 winners & match results

Here is a look at how Claude projects every match in the Round of 16 with score projections and brief analysis for how the match played out in our AI simulation.

  • France 2-1 Germany — Mbappé strikes again to settle the round's heavyweight tie, and Germany's hole in goal finally costs it against the favorite.
  • Morocco 2-0 South Korea — The Cinderella run rolls on comfortably, with Morocco's defensive structure shutting out Son Heung-min and South Korea.
  • Brazil 2-1 Norway — Brazil's class edges a tight one and ends Erling Haaland's tournament, even as Norway makes the Seleção sweat.
  • England 2-0 Mexico — Tuchel's England shuts the door on the host nation, with Mexico unable to break down the tournament's tightest defense.
  • Spain 3-1 Colombia — Another Lamine Yamal masterclass powers Spain through, with Colombia unable to keep pace once Spain finds its rhythm.
  • Senegal 1-1 Belgium (4-2 PK) — Senegal stuns an aging Belgian golden generation on penalties, becoming the second third-place team to reach the quarterfinals.
  • Argentina 3-0 United States — Argentina ends the host run emphatically, with Messi and company simply too sharp for the United States.
  • Portugal 2-1 Switzerland — Ronaldo's last dance survives another round as Portugal edges Switzerland.

⚽ World Cup AI picks: Quarterfinal winners & match results

Here is a look at how Claude projects every quarterfinal match with score projections and brief analysis for how the match played out in our AI simulation.

  • France 2-1 Morocco — Morocco makes it a contest, but France's depth and a Mbappé brace, now into Golden Boot range, end the Cinderella run.
  • Spain 2-0 Senegal — Oyarzabal and Yamal see Spain through comfortably; the other fairy tale ends.
  • England 2-1 Brazil — The match of the round and Claude's closest call: a gutted Brazil pushes England to the wire before Harry Kane sends the five-time champion home.
  • Argentina 2-1 Portugal — Portugal leads, Argentina answers, and Messi settles it. Ronaldo's last World Cup ends here.

⚽ World Cup AI picks: Semifinal winners & match results

Here is a look at how Claude projects every semifinal match with score projections and brief analysis for how the match played out in our AI simulation.

  • Spain 2-1 France — The best match of the tournament: France throws everything at Spain, Mbappé scores again, but Yamal is the difference. Spain reaches the final without ever really trailing.
  • Argentina 1-0 England — A nervy, low-scoring semifinal decided by one Messi moment. The dream final is set.

🥉 World Cup AI picks: Third-place match result

Here is a look at how Claude projects the third-place match with a score projection and brief analysis for how the match played out in our AI simulation.

  • France 2-1 England — France takes third, and Mbappé scores once more to put the Golden Boot away. England finishes fourth.

🏆 World Cup AI pick to win tournament

Here is Claude's pick to win the World Cup with a score projection and brief analysis for how the match played out in our AI simulation.

  • Spain 2-1 Argentina — Argentina makes Spain uncomfortable for the first time all tournament and takes the lead, but Spain's depth and Yamal's brilliance win out: La Roja levels, then finds the winner. It is Spain, not Messi, lifting the trophy; Argentina's No. 10 a single goal short of the storybook ending, in surely his last World Cup. Spain is champion of the world.

🏅 World Cup award winner picks

  • Golden Boot — Kylian Mbappé (France): France's deep run kept the ball at his feet, and he scored in nearly every round. Back-to-back Boots, and the clearest call in the field.
  • Golden Ball — Lamine Yamal (Spain): The best player on the best team, and the difference in every match Spain had to win.
  • Golden Glove — Unai Simón (Spain): Spain conceded the fewest goals and kept the most clean sheets on the way to the title.
  • Best Young Player — Pau Cubarsí (Spain): Only 19 years old, anchoring the tournament's best defense.
