The Carolina Hurricanes will look to claim Game 4 against the Montreal Canadiens tonight, snagging a 3-1 series lead before they head back home. Oddsmakers have them lined as a -142 moneyline betting favorite, and my Hurricanes vs. Canadiens prediction will dig into why that's the correct side to back.
We're also going to take a deep dive to come up with our favorite player prop ahead of puck drop from Bell Centre in Montreal at 8 p.m. ET. You can catch all the action on TNT or stream on HBO Max.

| 💰 Pick | ⚖️ Bet size (units) | 🧠 Why I bet this |
|---|---|---|
| Hurricanes moneyline (-142 via DraftKings) | 0.75u → 0.53u | Ruthless forecheck is outworking Montreal |
| Under 5.5 (-102 via DraftKings) | 0.25u → 0.25u | Both goaltenders playing |
| Cole Caufield to record 3+ shots on goal (-110 via bet365) | 0.5u → 0.46u | Montreal knows it will need to get more rubber on net tonight... |
| Juraj Slafkovsky to record 3+ shots on goal (+150 via bet365) | 0.5u -> 0.75u | ...and it will look to its two highest-volume shooters to do it. |
| Sean Walker to record 2+ blocked shots (-105 via DraftKings) | 0.75u -> 0.71u | Second d-pair and second PK minutes give plenty of opportunities |
| Sean Walker to record 3+ blocked shots (+300 via bet365) | 0.25u -> 0.75u | Just a small flier in case he goes bananas with the blocks again |

🏆 Who will win Hurricanes vs. Canadiens?
After a blip in the series opener, the Hurricanes have found their footing. Carolina has been dominating Montreal with its forecheck, and that's resulted in shot totals of 26-12 and 38-13.
The Hurricanes have dominated "Ice Tilt" throughout the playoffs, and that's been the difference across the last two games. It's hard for Montreal to score when the puck is at the other end of the ice (although it will surely need to make adjustments tonight, I don't think they will be enough).
Score prediction: Hurricanes 3, Canadiens 1
💰 Hurricanes vs. Canadiens prediction & best bet
Hurricanes moneyline (-142)
Continuing with the above, goaltending has also been a major factor in the Hurricanes' success. Through two rounds, Frederick Andersen and co. had allowed only 1.25 goals per game. This series has been a little rougher for the veteran, but he's settled in nicely over the last two games.
On the flip side, Jakub Dobes has continued to do his best to keep the Habs in games, posting a positive goals saved above expected (per moneypuck) in two of the three games, and the third, he was 0.05 goals below. One slip-up from the young netminder and Carolina will pounce.
🔥 Best Hurricanes vs. Canadiens player prop bet
Juraj Slafkovsky to record 3+ shots on goal (+150)
With 47 shots across his 17 postseason games, Slafkovsky has been Montreal's most active offensive weapon. Entering the series, he led all skaters with 19 high-danger shots on goal, and while naturally there hasn't been much of that this series, things need to change in a hurry for the Canadiens.
Playing with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield on the top line and taking shifts on the top power-play unit ensures he's on the ice for most of the Habs' offensive-zone starts. Coach Martin St. Louis bumped his minutes to a series-high 21:35 in Game 3, and I anticipate similar reliance on him tonight.
After being held in check the last two games, and with Montreal starved for a change, I'm expecting positive regression as the team's leading high-danger threat.
🚀 Hurricanes vs. Canadiens same-game parlay
I'm going to combine the Hurricanes moneyline play with the Slafkovsky shots and the lower of the two Sean Walker blocked shots plays. I like Walker to have plenty of opportunity to block shots for the same reason I like Salfkovsky to have an uptick in his shot attempts: Montreal simply must generate more offense tonight.
I'm going to place this bet at bet365, where I often find some of the best sportsbook promos. In particular, I like the early payout should a team go up 3-0.

💡 How I'm betting Hurricanes vs. Canadiens
Follow all of our NHL analysis and expert predictions this season.
I'm actually stretching a little further on this one than I often do, but that's because I see a couple of plus-money player props that I feel present better value that I would have normally expected. Lines are sharp at this point in the season at the best sports betting sites, and I would suggest not getting too carried away ever. However, I do like the blocked shots angle for Sean Walker as he's stepped up those numbers in a big way over the last two games (and at other points in the postseason) so I'm allowing myself a little "splurge."
I tightened up my SGP betting a smidgen in response to having more singles, but not a lot.
📊 Live Hurricanes vs. Canadiens odds: Game 4
Unsurprisingly, at this point in the series, there hasn't been a lot of line movement.g Carolina opened in the -135 to -140 range at most of the best sports betting apps, and it's trading between -140 and -150 across the board. I'm not expecting a lot of movement on that front, although it could get a little longer as the day goes on.
Also unsurprisingly, the total hasn't moved off the opening 5.5 number we've seen. This was always expected to be a lower-scoring series, and after back-to-back overtime games that ended 3-2 it would be shocking to see this line move away. If it hits 6, I might be inclined to increase my unit from 0.25 to 0.5 on the Under.
