With only three games on the docket, my NHL predictions today focus on two Western Conference contests.

In the night cap, the Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks clash in a rematch of last season’s first-round playoff series. Connor McDavid will be rested and keen on leaving Anaheim with better memories than he did in Game 6.

I’m also featuring the Ducks’ Leo Carlsson while backing Martin Necas to have a productive outing against the Jets in Winnipeg.

NHL best bet today

Martin Necas Over 2.5 shots (-114 via BetMGM)

Necas easily cleared this total in the first two games, firing four shots on goal against the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues.

Necas is also firing a ton of rubber toward the net, attempting six and seven shots against the Blues and Kings, respectively.

And he enjoys playing the Jets, with at least three shots in five of the previous eight meetings. As a team, the Avalanche average the third-most shots per game (32.5) and the Jets allow the third-most (32.3).

📡 SBR Edge: Well-rested Avalanche should have advantage

The Avalanche haven’t played since Saturday, while the Jets played on Sunday and Monday on the East Coast. That should allow Colorado to jump on Winnipeg early.

More NHL picks & predictions

Connor McDavid Over 1.5 points (-113 via DraftKings)

McDavid is on pace for 252 points. I know what you’re thinking. Based on his outrageously prolific start to the season, that estimation is probably too low.

In the first three games, McDavid scored two points twice and enjoyed a five-point outburst in Vancouver against the Canucks.

He now gets a shot at the Ducks, who sent the Oilers packing in the first round of the 2026 playoffs. McDavid is well-rested, too, as the Oilers haven’t played since Saturday.

No. 97 scored two points in seven of the previous 10 meetings with the Ducks and three of the last four.

Leo Carlsson Over 0.5 assists (+102 via FanDuel)

Carlsson has started well, tallying four assists in the Ducks’ opening two games.

The 21-year-old Swede notched three assists against the Florida Panthers and one against the Vegas Golden Knights. Carlsson has at least one helper in four of the previous six meetings with the Oilers.

And the Ducks have the second-best power play (50%), scoring on three of six attempts, while the Oilers’ penalty kill is the worst (57.1%).
