At long last, the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres will start their second-round series, the first time the teams have met in the playoffs since 1998.

For Game 1, I'm featuring Nick Suzuki and Tage Thompson in my NHL player props. Game 2 of the Anaheim Ducks vs. Vegas Golden Knights series caps the action, and I'm putting the spotlight on Mitch Marner and Jackson LaCombe.

💰 Best NHL player prop bet today

Nick Suzuki Over 0.5 assists (-125) at Sabres

Suzuki amassed five helpers in the first round against the Tampa Bay Lightning, only one of which came at even strength. I expect the Canadiens' captain to be much more productive 5-on-5, and I like how he played in Tampa in Game 7.

His goal was fortuitous, but he put himself in the right position. He's also extremely productive against the Sabres, entering on an 8-game assist streak, tallying 14.

🔥 More NHL player prop picks

Tage Thompson Over 0.5 assists (+115) vs. Canadiens

Thompson registered at least one helper in four of six first-round games against the Boston Bruins, notching 2 in the decider. He leads the team in assists thus far, one ahead of Peyton Krebs and Owen Power.

He's also been a reliable asset against the Canadiens, entering on a 3-game assist streak. As Thompson is usually more of a trigger man, finishing with the most goals (40), he's receiving plus-money odds.

Mitch Marner Over 0.5 assists (-140) vs. Ducks

Playoff Mitch is back and better than ever. His assist on the Golden Knights' opener in Game 1 against the Anaheim Ducks offered a perfect snapshot of his otherworldly vision.

It's not just his vision, but his ability to thread the pass through the eye of a needle that separates him from most setup men. Marner has an assist in six of seven postseason games, amassing 5 points in the previous 2.

He's seeing everything a split second before everyone else, which is more than enough to make opponents pay.

Jackson LaCombe Over 0.5 assists (+106) at Golden Knights

Frankly, I'm astonished I'm still finding LaCombe's assist props at plus-money odds. He leads all scorers with 9 assists, notching at least one in 6 of 7 contests. I backed him the only time he didn't register an assist. Go figure.

Regardless, I'm confident in the pick as LaCombe loves to dish the biscuit, so much so that he gave up a chance to score on a gaping cage in an attempt to set up a teammate.

While that didn't pan out, and probably cost the Ducks Game 1, he won't deviate, considering how successful he's been as a setup man from the point.

🚀 Best NHL parlay picks today

I've omitted the Thompson pick to increase the likelihood of cashing the SGP. I'm excited to see whether Suzuki can continue his success against the Sabres in the postseason.

I expect more goals in Game 2 of the Ducks-Golden Knights series. Marner and LaCombe have been at the center of most dangerous offensive forays, which bodes well for each to pick up a helper.

💡 How I'm betting NHL player props today

Follow all of our NHL analysis and expert predictions this season.

With how close games are in the postseason, I'm cautious about backing players to score at least two points. I focus on shot and assist props, infrequently backing goal-scorer picks.

Suzuki didn't break out 5-on-5 against the Lightning, but played well.

I anticipate a more productive series at even strength. I'm riding the hot hand with Thompson, Marner, and LaCombe, all of whom have been their team's primary setup man recently.
