We've got two games on the NHL playoff slate on Wednesday, including the Canadiens and Sabres beginning their second-round series. Meanwhile, the Ducks look to get even in Vegas against the Golden Knights in Game 2.

My NHL anytime goal scorer predictions today target Cole Caufield and Tage Thompson, alongside a pick at better than +300 odds who is due to light the lamp this postseason.

🥅 Best anytime goal scorer pick today

Cole Caufield (+175) at Sabres

Cole Caufield should be thrilled that he's facing the Sabres in Round 2 of the playoffs. The Canadiens sniper has scored eight goals across his previous eight games versus the Sabres. That includes four goals against Buffalo this season for the 51-goal scorer.

After scoring just once against the Lightning in the first round, I think this Sabres series profiles as a much more open environment for Caufield to generate scoring chances. DraftKings offers market-best +175 odds on Caufield scoring tonight, but there's value paying up to +165.

🔥 More NHL goal scorer picks

Tage Thompson (+140) vs. Canadiens

Just because Tage Thompson was more of a facilitator in the first round versus the Bruins doesn't scare me off backing him in the series opener against Montreal.

As you'd expect, Thompson leads the Sabres in shot attempts and shots on goal this postseason while totaling one goal scored below expected, per MoneyPuck. That tells us that Thompson has played more dangerous offensive hockey than the score sheet indicates.

He scored a hat trick against the Canadiens in Buffalo earlier this season, and I think he's due for a goal early on in this series. FanDuel has the best value on a Thompson anytime goal at +140. Meanwhile, our Gary Pearson targets Thompson to log an assist instead in Game 1 as part of his best NHL player props today.

Tomas Hertl (+320) vs. Ducks

This is my dart throw for Wednesday night, but one that has plenty of evidence behind it.

Though Tomas Hertl has yet to score this postseason, the Golden Knights forward ranks second on the team in expected goals during the playoffs. He also got the better of Anaheim goaltender Lukas Dostal during the regular season, scoring twice across three head-to-head meetings with the Ducks.

Hertl's cold streak has bumped his odds all the way up to +320 at DraftKings tonight, but that will only make it that much sweeter (and more profitable) if the veteran comes through for us at home in Game 2.

🚀 Best NHL goal scorer parlay

Combining all three of my goal scorer picks for Wednesday gives us +2614 odds at DraftKings, the best price among the best sports betting apps. The long odds demonstrate how difficult this will be to nail, so I'm only wagering 0.1 units on it.

💡 How I'm betting NHL goal scorer picks today

Follow all of our NHL analysis and expert predictions this season.

Two of my three goal scorer predictions for Wednesday are for Game 1 between the Sabres and Canadiens. Although there's some uncertainty with it being a series opener, I expect a high-scoring Game 1 as the last eight matchups between the Atlantic Division rivals have featured at least six goals.

Goal scorer picks can be difficult, as represented by their plus-money odds. It's important not to get carried away with your bet sizes. That's why I'm wagering my standard 0.2 units on each. Nailing two of three predictions would result in a profitable night, while winning all three would bring home over a full unit in profit. Bankroll management is crucial in sports betting, so be smart with yours.
