Panthers vs. Packers Prediction: Week 8 Odds, Picks & Best Bet (Oct. 29)
Last Updated: October 28, 2026 8:48 AM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link
The Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers are each coming off disappointing losses to division rivals as they enter this Thursday Night Football matchup, and my Panthers vs. Packers prediction backs the road underdogs to cover, just like they did when they won outright as 13-point underdogs at Lambeau Field a year ago.
Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET on Thursday night (Prime Video), and Green Bay is a 3.5-point betting favorite.

Panthers vs. Packers prediction & best bet
Panthers +3.5 (-106 via FanDuel)
Carolina lost in one of the most bizarre ways you’ll ever see last week, as Tampa Bay became the third team in the last 50 seasons to score 40-plus points in a game where it had fewer than 65 passing yards. That offensive breakout was a by-product of rushing for 258 yards, the second most of any team this season. But Green Bay isn’t built to take advantage of that weakness, as it has now run for fewer than 100 yards in seven straight games (the longest active streak in the NFL).
I’m giving a pass to Carolina for last week’s loss, as the Buccaneers have owned that rivalry with an 11-2 record since 2020. Green Bay is much too undisciplined of a team to back on a short week, as it has committed the most penalties (65), roughing the passer penalties (eight), and committed the most drops (18).
📡 SBR Edge: Not taking advantage of poor defenses
In the last two weeks, the Packers faced two struggling defenses in the Cowboys and Lions. Each of those teams allowed a season-low in yards when facing the Packers, while Detroit also allowed a season-low 17 points to Green Bay last week.
Bryce Young's poise
There are plenty of negatives to speak of regarding Bryce Young and his development as a young passer. He ranks 25th or worse among 31 quarterbacks with a minimum of 600 dropbacks since 2024 in EPA per dropback, dropback success rate, completion percentage, and off-target percentage. But as he build rapport with Jalen Coker and reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan, big improvements have happened.
Through seven weeks, Young is on pace for a single-season high in air yards per attempt (ranks seventh). He is also in the top 12 in explosive pass rate and first down/touchdown per dropback rate.
Young has also shown poise under pressure, ranking in the top 8 in interceptions/dropback and sacks/dropback when under duress.
Play to: Panthers +3.5 (-120), pass at +3
Score prediction: Packers 27, Panthers 24
