The latest chapter of an iconic NFC East rivalry will take place in the NFL Divisional Round as the Giants travel to the City of Brotherly Love to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Giants (14-4 ATS, 8-9-1 Over/Under) entered the NFC Playoffs as the six-seed. New York largely dictated terms as a 3-point road underdog against the Minnesota Vikings on Wild Card Weekend. The 7-point victory marked the Giants’ first playoff win since the 2011 season when they won the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, the Eagles (8-9 ATS, 10-7 O/U) enjoyed a much-needed bye last week after beating the Giants in their regular-season finale to clinch the one-seed. Philadelphia lost only three times all season, but two of those defeats came in the final three games. The last time the Eagles were the top seed in the NFC Playoffs in 2017, they won the Super Bowl.

There has been line movement Saturday, and FanDuel Sportsbook and BetMGM are the only two of our top-rated sportsbooks with Philadelphia -7.5 available. The Giants are a +8 road underdog everywhere else as of Saturday afternoon.

As for the O/U, the near-consensus line of 48 sits one full point higher than the opener. A couple of shops have ticked up even further to 48.5, including FanDuel and BetMGM. There's a nearly even betting split, with the Over getting 55% of the wagers, and the Under attracting 45%.

In most cases, siding with the public on an underdog isn’t a desirable position to be in. However, there are several components of this matchup that suggest that the Giants can be competitive against the NFC’s top seed on Saturday night. 

Daniel Jones showed out in his playoff debut last week. Despite working with a wide receiver corps that is void of big-name talent, he managed to throw for over 300 yards and two scores. Jones also lived up to his “Dual-Threat Danny” nickname by leading the Giants in rushing.

The caveat that comes with last week’s performance is the fact that New York was matched up against the horrendous Vikings defense. Things will presumably be much tougher against an Eagles unit that ranks sixth in adjusted efficiency, according to Football Outsiders. That said, Philadelphia was much tougher defensively against the pass this season than the run.

Despite sitting Jones, Saquon Barkley, and several other starters against the Eagles in Week 18, the Giants were still able to amass nearly 130 rushing yards. Establishing the ground game early will be critical on Saturday. If the Giants are able to work the play clock and limit the number of total possessions, one has to like their chances of hanging tough.

Of course, the fact that the point spread is lingering north of the key number of +7 also raises the appeal of betting the underdog. The added familiarity that exists between divisional opponents is also worth considering.

Though the Giants have lost outright in each of their last six trips to Philadelphia, they did manage to cover the spread in five of those contests.
