SGP Predictions for Buccaneers vs. Cardinals
Buccaneers -7.5 (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Bucs haven’t blown out many teams, winning their first two season games by double digits but failing to do it again since. Sunday night should be the perfect opportunity as a Tampa defense that ranks an NFL fourth in passing yards allowed per game (194.5) faces off with a quarterback making his first-ever NFL start.
Arizona is 1-6 outright in home games this year and will try to vanquish the Bucs with QB Trace McSorley, who's thrown three interceptions and no touchdowns in three relief appearances in 2022. Losers of two in a row, this is the best get-right opportunity the Bucs have all season. Tampa is -7.5 at DraftKings, a slight benefit over the -8 line listed at FanDuel.
James Conner Over 74.5 rushing yards (+115) ⭐⭐⭐
Though Tampa shut down the Cincinnati Bengals’ backfield in Week 15, it wasn’t long ago that 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey rushed all over the Buccaneers’ defense. The Bucs rank 12th in run defense DVOA but are 17th in rushing yards allowed per game.
In a matchup with third-stringer Trace McSorley at center, Tampa knows Arizona's offense will revolve around RB James Conner. Although that could make running lanes difficult to find for the Cardinals’ veteran back, Conner’s indisputable volume should let him post decent numbers.
Conner averages over 4.0 YPC this year and 18.2 rushing attempts over his previous five games. DraftKings lists his rushing total at either 64.5 yards (-160) or 74.5 yards (+105).Take the more aggressive line because the wager runs contrary to the Bucs covering the spread, boosting our combined odds significantly.
Tom Brady Over 254.5 passing yards (-175) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Bucs’ offense has had fits and starts in scoring efficiency, but Brady has been a volume passer for the majority of the season. The GOAT hasn’t thrown for a total below 243 yards in any of his past 11 matchups. In nine of those 11 contests, he eclipsed this DraftKings yardage total.
Arizona ranks an NFL 23rd in passing YPG allowed (237.6) and shouldn't pose a threat with its 20th-ranked pass defense DVOA. Arizona is weak on the ground, too, but I just don’t see how Brady doesn’t make his mark given how consistent he’s been in passing volume lately. Stick to a more conservative line on Brady’s yardage since this wager vaults our parlay into +700 territory as it is--plenty worthwhile for a three-leg parlay.
