The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are firmly on the bubble and need at least one win in the ACC Tournament to have a shot at making the NCAA Tournament. While they’re the higher seed in this 5 vs. 12 matchup, they lost to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Feb. 27 (70-65).
To advance to this round, the Fighting Irish defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 84-80. Can they defeat the Demon Deacons again and extend their season?

In the first meeting between these two teams, the big differences in the game were turnovers and free throws. The Fighting Irish finished the game 19-for-22 from the charity stripe while the Demon Deacons were just 8-for-10. Additionally, Wake Forest turned the ball over 12 times, which was twice as many times as Notre Dame.
What was most incredible about the box score of that game is that the Fighting Irish rank 346th in free throws attempted per game. The Demon Deacons aren’t much better, as they rank 233rd, but the point is, it’s doubtful Notre Dame will attempt 12 more free throws than Wake Forest on Wednesday.
If Notre Dame struggles to get to the line, this will be a long game for the Irish. Wake Forest shoots 47.8% from the field, 30th in the nation, while the Fighting Irish shoot just 40.6%, which ranks 331st.
We don’t love the Demon Deacons giving 8.5 points, but this game is for their season. They’re the much more talented unit, and they just knocked off a very good Clemson team. Without much confidence in the total, we’re backing the Demon Deacons to cover, as all the anomalies in the first meeting are corrected.

While Wake Forest isn't much better at just 3-11, its whole body of work makes it clear why the Demon Deacons are such large favorites.
Because the Fighting Irish won the first meeting between these two teams, this spread should drop before tip-off. It probably won’t drop lower than 7.5 points, but if you can get that number for -110 or better, or get -8.5 for +100 or better, then the value supports a wager.

The Demon Deacons are limping into the postseason losing five of their last eight games. But that hasn’t stopped oddsmakers from making them huge favorites on Wednesday. Though it’s too early to know where the majority of action is going, this number should shrink. If it doesn’t, we don’t recommend taking this number any higher than where it is right now.
The total opened at 136 or 136.5 at our best sports betting apps. The first game between these two teams ended with a total of 135, so it seems oddsmakers are expecting a similar outcome on Wednesday. We don’t expect there to be much movement before tip-off for this total.
