To no one's surprise (at least not mine), San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama (+200) is the betting favorite in the 2027 NBA MVP odds. He led the Spurs to the NBA Finals in just his third NBA season and averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game during the regular season.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+400) and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (+475) aren't too far behind, followed by Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (+650) and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1500).

With such short odds on Wembanyama and Gilgeous-Alexander, I'm looking to find value among players with longer odds. The best way to do that is to identify a player on a playoff contender - since voters usually factor in team success - who could reasonably take another step forward in his development next season.
The mean age of players to win their first NBA MVP over the past 20 years is 26.33 (or 26.5 if you prefer the median), so we'll keep that in mind when analyzing the market.
Luka Doncic (+650)
While the Lakers would likely struggle to win the West next season, given that they'll be competing against the co-favorites in the NBA championship odds, Doncic is the type of player who can rack up enough stats to sway voters. He averaged 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game this past season and will be 28 years old by the time the upcoming season wraps up.
Other players to win their first NBA MVP at age 28 include James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Dirk Nowitzki.
Jayson Tatum (+3000)
The Boston Celtics are a +190 favorite at DraftKings to win the East this upcoming season, which already puts Jayson Tatum in an advantageous position to win MVP. Voters are often motivated by narratives - he missed most of last season with an Achilles tear - and the real possibility of the Celtics trading Jaylen Brown would only help his chances of receiving full credit for Boston's success.
He will be 29 years old when the 2027 playoffs begin, similar to Joel Embiid and Kobe Bryant, who both won their MVP awards at that age.
Cade Cunningham (+2700)
At current odds, Cade Cunningham (+2700) is the best value bet to win MVP. The Pistons were the top seed in the East this past season, and they have a strong chance of having similar success, as they ranked second in the league in defensive efficiency.
