NBA All-Star Skills Props, Odds: Picks & Predictions for 3-Point, Dunk Contest

With the NBA's top players heading to Indianapolis for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, we take a look at our favorite NBA All-Star Skills props based on the best NBA odds.

With fans eagerly awaiting the NBA All-Star Game, they still have plenty to watch with Saturday's NBA All-Star Game festivities. That begins at 8 p.m. ET, with the skills challenge serving as the opening act for the 3-point and dunk contests.

The Indiana Pacers act as the hosts for the weekend, and they will be heavily featured throughout Saturday. Indiana will face off against All-Stars and former top draft picks in the night's first event.

Following that, Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton challenges defending champion Damian Lillard in the 3-point contest. Finally, Mac McClung, last year's NBA dunk contest champion, aims to defend his crown in the night's main event.

Skills challenge pick: Team Top Picks (+140 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Since the NBA skills challenge changed its format two years ago, the hometown trio has won out with Team Cavs winning in 2022 and Team Jazz taking it in 2023.

This year should break that streak with Team Pacers (Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, Myles Turner) being the biggest underdog at our best sports betting sites. Instead, the value is in going with the favorite: a trio of former No. 1 picks in Paolo Banchero, Anthony Edwards, and Victor Wembanyama.

Both DraftKings and FanDuel are offering Team Top Picks at +140  — BetMGM has them at +125 — and it’s the combo of size, athleticism, and movement skills that these three bring that sets them apart. The steepest competition comes from Team All-Stars (Scottie Barnes, Tyrese Maxey, Trae Young), whom DraftKings has at +160 and FanDuel has at +180. 

The biggest difference for Team Top Picks is the shooting and ball-handling that Wemby brings to the table. Usually the big men can be the downfall in the relay and shooting competitions, but the rookie phenom is one of the most gifted big men we've ever seen. Edwards is arguably the best athlete participating in this competition, while Banchero is well-rounded with his passing and shooting.

3-point contest pick: Tyrese Haliburton (+550 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐

This year the 3-point contest is a toss-up, even with Damian Lillard returning after winning last season. The last time there was a back-to-back 3-point champ was 2007-08 with former Toronto Raptor Jason Kapono, and even though Lillard is the favorite, it seems unlikely he’ll capture the title again.

DraftKings has Lillard +475, FanDuel has him +370, and BetMGM has him +360, but the most intriguing options are Indiana’s own Haliburton and Lillard’s Milwaukee Bucks teammate Malik Beasley. While Beasley has the best 3-point percentage this season of any player participating (44.9%), the edge goes to Haliburton. 

The two-time All-Star is the only player competing this year shooting at least 7.5 threes per game and hitting at least 40% of them. While Lillard is the favorite, Haliburton falls just behind him at our best sports betting apps, but DraftKings offers the best value by far. Haliburton’s +550 line at DraftKings stands out in comparison to FanDuel (+440) and BetMGM (+500).

Slam dunk contest pick: Jaime Jaquez Jr. (+800 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐

Nothing is bigger at NBA All-Star Weekend than the dunk contest, and this year there’s some real value to be had in what should be an unpredictable night.

It’s not easy to project who’s going to bring the flash and take home the crown of best dunker, and with Mac McClung coming off last year’s victory, the odds are skewed. Our best sportsbooks have the Osceola Magic guard as a major favorite, pricing him anywhere from -170 to -222 entering the weekend.

There’s almost zero value in taking the G-Leaguer to win back-to-back titles, which hasn’t happened since Zach LaVine did so in 2015-16. Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown and New York Knicks forward Jacob Toppin, whose brother Obi won in 2022, have the next-best odds.

There’s simply too much uncertainty around the dunk contest to bet on a major favorite like McClung - especially when there’s a sleeping giant in Miami Heat rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr.

He’s become just the fourth player in franchise history to win Rookie of the Month multiple times and at 6-foot-6, the former UCLA Bruin has a 6’9.5” wingspan and 39-inch vertical jump. He has the size and explosiveness to make some noise, and most of all, he has wildly great value at BetMGM.

While he’s the biggest underdog at both DraftKings (+550) and FanDuel (+650), BetMGM has him at a whopping +800, and that’s too good to pass up.
