After one of the hardest hits in recent memory took out Christopher Bell - and our bets on him - at Michigan, I'm hopeful we can get back on track at Pocono. This week's Great American Getaway 400 is scheduled for Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m. (Amazon Prime). Let's dive into my NASCAR predictions at Pocono, one of just two big flat ovals on the schedule.

💡 How to bet NASCAR at Pocono
The so-called Tricky Triangle is one of the strangest venues on the circuit. The 2.5-mile circuit features three radically different corners, each modeled after a different venue. Turn 1 features 14 degrees of banking, but Turns 2 and 3 feature less than 8 degrees, forcing drivers to lean on their brakes.
It's difficult to handicap the first of the two big flat tracks, but once we've got the results for the first one, they'll help us tremendously for the second. Still, Michigan offers some insight as a 2-mile track with high top speeds, and the brake issues we saw certain teams have at Nashville point to some guys to avoid in this week's race.
🏆 Best bet to win the Great American Getaway 400
Chase Elliott, Hendrick Motorsports (No. 9)
- Chase Elliott to win: +1200 via DraftKings (0.5u)
- Chase Elliott vs. Denny Hamlin: +180 via DraftKings (1u)
Fading Denny Hamlin hasn't worked the last two weeks. But with his odds to win Sunday's race at a shocking +250 (28.6%) - and Chase Elliott at a whopping +180 (35.7%) just to finish in front of him - we're going to stick with it. Hamlin has been exceptional over the last few weeks, but he has benefited significantly from others' misfortune.
Michigan, the best comparator we've got for this event, saw Elliott and Christopher Bell look fast, only for a slip-up to end both of their days, giving the race to Hamlin. But Elliott, despite running only 147 of the 200 laps, led the most (67) and recorded the second-most fastest laps (16) on his way to the highest average green-flag speed.
Last year, four of the top 10 drivers by average green flag speed at Michigan went on to score top 10s at Pocono, including the eventual race winner, Chase Briscoe. The best three drivers by average green-flag speed at Pocono were at least inside the top 10 in the metric at Michigan. Elliott led the way in average green-flag speed last week, so let's back him at friendly odds relative to Hamlin.
📡 SBR Edge
It's difficult to project the first big flat track of the year, but raw speed at Michigan tends to hold some predictive weight. Last year's Pocono winner, Briscoe, was fourth in average green-flag speed at Michigan. The 2024 Pocono winner, Blaney, was third in the metric at Michigan. In 2023, both the actual winner (Hamlin) and the driver who led the most laps (Byron) ranked seventh and second in the metric at Michigan, respectively.
🔥 More NASCAR picks & prop bets
While Elliott stands out as a high-value target for Sunday's festivities, we can find some additional value down the board. The books' overconfidence in Hamlin this week creates ample opportunities for us to exploit.
Bubba Wallace, 23XI Racing (No. 23)
- Bubba Wallace to win: +2800 via Caesars (0.25u)
- Bubba Wallace top 10: +110 via DraftKings (1.75u)
When handicapping Pocono, looking at the recent results at Michigan is helpful, but so is leaning on historic data from the big flat tracks. While Wallace's results at Pocono have never been that impressive - he has one top 5 and three top 10s in 13 starts - his numbers at Indianapolis are exceptional. There, he has a win, three top 5s, and four top 10s in five starts. He has the best average driver rating at the track in the NextGen car, too.
Wallace should be one of the favorites to win this race, not a fringe guy with plus-money top 10 odds. He is coming off a third-place result at Michigan that saw him rank sixth in average green-flag speed, ahead of eighth-ranked Hamlin. All three of the 23XI cars, Riley Herbst included, brought top 10 average green-flag speed to Michigan. The No. 23 Toyota will be fast, and Wallace is a proven winner on big flat tracks.
Riley Herbst, 23XI Racing (No. 35)
- Riley Herbst to win: +40000 via Caesars (0.07u)
- Riley Herbst top 10: +1100 via FanDuel (0.43u)
Some sportsbooks are charging more for you to buy Chase Elliott to win than FanDuel is charging you for Riley Herbst just to score a top 10. While Herbst isn't great, 23XI Racing is, and Herbst's results have been trending up as a result. Over the last seven races, Herbst has three top 15s. He was also top 10 by average green-flag speed at Michigan, which he parlayed into a 13th-place result. Like Wallace, Herbst has a win at Indianapolis - just in the O'Reilly Parts Series. He probably won't win, but with a fast car and weather potentially cutting this one short, Herbst may just pull off the improbable.
