In the solitary WNBA matchup on Wednesday, two teams hungry for momentum will clash. The Washington Mystics (12-10) are striving to secure back-to-back victories for the first time in over a month, while the Minnesota Lynx (10-13) find themselves in a tough spot after losing four of their last five games and desperately seeking a playoff berth.

As the home favorites, the Lynx will be aiming to come out on top, but there could be value in supporting a shorthanded Washington squad. The numbers suggest the latter option is a favorable bet, especially considering the recent form of the Mystics' new leading player.

Yes, the Mystics are dealing with a number of injuries. Elena Delle Donne (ankle), Shakira Austin (hip), Ariel Atkins (ankle), Kristi Toliver (foot) are all listed as out. But that was also the case during Washington's 84-69 win over the Phoenix Mercury a few days ago.

Brittney Sykes has helped steady the ship for a depleted Washington team. Over the last six games, Sykes has averaged 21.6 points per game. She has paced the team with a 28% usage rate over the last five outings, which ranks eighth in the league, per WNBA.com.

Sykes has cleared this points prop in four of her last six contests, scoring 20-plus points in all four such performances. That's likely why FanDuel has priced Sykes at -168 to finish with 20 or more points in an alternate market. For comparison, Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx has a points prop of 20.5 while being -166 to record 20-plus points.

The Lynx are the third-worst defense in the league by my power ratings, and have had even more issues of late. During a 1-4 stretch over the last five games, Minnesota has the worst defensive rating (116) in the league and is surrendering 94 points per contest.

Sykes should stay hot against a leaky Lynx defense on Wednesday.
