The Chicago White Sox are fresh off their first postseason series win since the 2005 World Series, and now face a familiar opponent in the AL Central rival Cleveland Guardians. My White Sox vs. Guardians prediction acknowledges the rest versus rust factor with Cleveland having a long layoff, and expects Chicago to steal Game 1.

As of this writing the White Sox had not yet announced their starting pitching plans, while the Guardians are turning to Parker Messick. First pitch from Progressive Field is set for 1 p.m. ET (TBS/truTV), and Cleveland is a -157 betting favorite.

💰 White Sox vs. Guardians prediction & best bet

White Sox ML (+130)

Chicago not only snapped a 21-year drought between playoff series wins, but that was also the last time it won consecutive games on the road in a postseason. En route to its 2005 World Series title, it went 6-0 in road games, and the White Sox could go on a similar run on the road here.

Not much separated these two teams in the regular season. Chicago won the regular season series 7-6, with six of the 13 games being decided by one run and two going to extra innings.

Parker Messick has allowed three or fewer runs in 14 consecutive starts, but I expect the White Sox to battle him early and steal this opener late.

📡 SBR Edge: Playing Messick evenly

Parker Messick made four starts against the White Sox this year. While Cleveland had a plus-six run differential in those starts, the team went just 2-2.

🔥 Best White Sox vs. Guardians player prop bet

Jose Ramirez Under 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-110)

Jose Ramirez hasn’t been the same since surgery to repair a fractured left hamate bone in June. Post All-Star Break, his power numbers were practically non-existent, with a .598 OPS and just two home runs.

Ramirez’ struggles were magnified in September with the team in a close division race with the White Sox right down to the very last series. He hit .198 in September with just one home run, which is why I also wouldn’t put anyone off his Under of 1.5 total bases. But those odds are much more steep at DraftKings (-183, 64.66% implied probability) which is why I shifted gears to this hits/runs/RBI prop.

Backing the Under for this wager is an indictment on a Guardians lineup that didn’t have a player hit 20 homers for them in their uniform the entire season, nor did anyone drive in 75 runs, while only four batted .250 or better.

💣 White Sox vs. Guardians home run prediction

Chase Meidroth to hit a home run (+1300)

In a matchup of one team who hit 211 home runs (fifth most) and another who ended the year with 162 long balls (27th), I’m taking a flier on the more prolific home run-hitting team.

In 122 games in 2025, Chase Meidroth slugged .253/.329/.320 with five home runs, an 87 wRC+, and a 14.3% strikeout rate. Those numbers improved dramatically over 154 games this season when he slashed .276/.350/.415 with 16 home runs, a 118 wRC+, and a 21.9% strikeout rate.

While Meidroth’s 7.6% increase in strikeout rate and 6.7% increase in whiff rate each ranked second from 2025 to 2026 among Statcast qualifiers, the difference in his pull percentage and pull air percentage also ranked ninth and fourth, respectively.
