The Colorado Rockies will hope to keep rolling after their bats came alive in the opening game of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays, and we're breaking down the matchup in our Rockies-Blue Jays player props based on the best MLB odds.

The limping Toronto Blue Jays (6-8) aim to revive their offense as they take on the struggling Colorado Rockies (4-10), with the game scheduled to start at 3:07 p.m. ET from the Rogers Centre, airing on Sportsnet.

These two teams have been struggling overall, with the Blue Jays posting the fourth-worst run differential early in the 2024 season at minus-25, and the Rockies have an even lower mark at minus-27. But the clubs certainly didn't look close during the opener of the three-game series on Friday, with the Rockies' offense erupting for 20 hits while pummeling Toronto 12-4.

Now the Blue Jays will be leaning on their bullpen to stop the bleeding, with Yariel Rodriguez making his first major-league start.

Here are our best Rockies vs. Blue Jays player props and MLB picks (odds via our best MLB betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Rockies vs. Blue Jays prediction

Dakota Hudson Under 2.5 strikeouts (+110 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dakota Hudson has been shining bright early in the 2024 season while posting a 2.38 ERA, with only thee earned runs allowed over 11 1/3 innings. He's shown pinpoint command too while walking only three batters, and his WHIP sits at an also sterling 1.24.

However, the regression monster might come soon enough for a pitcher whose expected batting average allowed ranked among the bottom 4% of MLB in 2023, according to Baseball Savant. He's also fresh off posting a career-worst 45.4 hard-hit percentage.

The Blue Jays' offense has been wildly inconsistent in 2024, posting two or fewer runs six times (including two shutouts), and putting up eight-plus runs three times. But for all the team's potential to produce a dud, the struggles often don't come from rampant strikeouts. Toronto ranks a mid-pack 16th in strikeouts, and the Blue Jays will be facing a pitcher prone to hard contact who has recorded only six punchouts in 2024. Hudson also tallied a meager 5.0 K/9 in 2023.

A $10 wager at +110 odds through Betway on this prop leads to an $11 profit, with an implied probability of 47.62% that the Under hits.

Ezequiel Tovar Over 1.5 bases (+120 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ezequiel Tovar has been sizzling to start the season, and especially recently. He's recorded two-plus hits in six games already, including during four straight and in six of his last seven contests.

He's hitting for power too, with both of his home runs coming throughout that stretch, along with three doubles. Add it all up, and the promising young shortstop sits in the top 25 leaguewide in batting average (19th at .340) and OPS (23rd at .975).

And now a white-hot hitter gets an ideal matchup while primarily facing a weak Blue Jays bullpen. The Jays are trotting out Yariel Rodriguez, and there's promise in the flame-throwing Cuban who lit up Triple-A with a 14.2 K/9.

But Rodriguez has made only two minor-league appearances, topping out at four innings. Bowden Francis will likely be next out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays, and he's been napalmed for 12 earned runs over 8 1/3 innings. Then Toronto will get deeper into a bullpen that sits 27th with its 5.60 ERA.

Tovar is well-positioned to tee off again with his quality contact ability. Backing him would lead to a $12 profit on a $10 bet, and the implied odds on this +120 price are 45.5%.

Yariel Rodriguez Over 4.5 strikeouts (-135 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐

The only reason this isn't a more confident four-star pick is because it's difficult to gauge how long the Blue Jays will let Rodriguez stick around in his MLB debut, and he wasn't stretched out in full during the right-hander's brief minor-league time. But he could get a longer leash given the team's bullpen issues, and the unit endured a larger workload on Friday when starter Kevin Gausman lasted only 3 2/3 innings.

Rodriguez hasn't needed to be on the mound long to rack up punchouts anyway. He piled up six during his Triple-A debut over four innings, and then four across 2 1/3 innings in his most recent outing. He didn't allow a run in either affair and gave up just one hit.

That kind of efficiency against a usually basement-dwelling Rockies offense could lead to a longer afternoon for Rodriguez while feasting on hitters who have struck out the sixth-most times in MLB. It all makes for an appealing play, and one that will generate $7.40 of profit on a $10 wager with 57.5% implied odds.
