The Athletics have lost 100-plus games in two of the past three seasons. So being above .500 at 22-21 during mid-May already feels like an accomplishment. And predictably, slugger Brent Rooker is a significant reason behind the team's early uprising.

Rooker sits tied for 15th leaguewide with his 10 homers. And although he's putting together a quality season thus far, some underlying metrics point to him ascending soon and getting closer to the .927 OPS of last season (he sits at a still solid .793 now). Most notably, that includes his .543 expected slugging, which sits a fair bit higher than Rooker's actual slugging of .477.

And now Rooker gets a chance to see the Dodgers' bullpen for much of the evening.

Los Angeles will trot out Matt Sauer to start. He can go a handful of innings, but Sauer has maxed out at 78 pitches this year, and that outing came back in late April. He's thrown 24, 42, and nine pitches over his other three appearances this season, and Sauer has logged just 11 2/3 innings total.

It's likely the Dodgers' bullpen gets plenty of work in this game then, and that unit has been pedestrian, at least compared to the rest of Los Angeles' dominance in pretty much every other area. The Dodgers' bullpen ERA of 3.81 sits 15th in MLB, but what's especially appealing is that the team enters tonight tied for the third-most home runs allowed among relievers (23).
