Notre Dame -37.5 (-118 via FanDuel)
Stanford’s run defense has had its bright spots this season, starting with allowing 46 rushing yards and generating seven tackles for loss in a Week 1 win over Hawaii, and then holding now-No. 4 Miami to just 3.8 yards per carry. But that doesn’t tell the whole story, as the Cardinal were exposed for 401 passing yards and five touchdowns by Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah, and Wake Forest just ran for 197 yards and 5.3 yards per carry in a 57-3 blowout of Stanford.
Notre Dame seemingly then has a multitude of ways to attack Stanford’s defense. It could be with CJ Carr’s arm, as he entered last week ranked fifth in Total QBR (89), eighth in yards per dropback (9.8), and had a 5-to-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio on play action. Or, after Demon Deacons quarterback Gio Lopez ran for a game-high 88 yards last week, perhaps Carr, who has 43 passing and rushing touchdowns and just seven turnovers since 2025, will use his legs to help the running game be more consistent.
All in all, Stanford ranks 118th or worse defensively in success rate and adjusted EPA/Play, so the Fighting Irish offense could be in line for their third game of 49+ points this season.
📡 SBR Edge: ACC dominance
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is 19-3 in his career against ACC teams, while the Fighting Irish have won 15 straight games (the second longest active streak in FBS).
Moore's status is concerning but his potential absence could be overcome
Preseason All-American cornerback Leonard Moore is questionable to play this weekend after suffering a concussion last week. He has consistently taken away one half of the field each game, allowing just six receptions for 57 yards on 13 targets through five games.
While Moore is a big reason Notre Dame ranks sixth in EPA/Pass and in the top-10 in rush success rate, Notre Dame does have a deep secondary group. But it’s not like Stanford’s passing attack is too imposing anyway, as its offense as a whole ranks 118th in net adjusted EPA/Play. Quarterback Davis Warren is completing just 59% of his passes, and the Cardinal haven’t topped seven points in three of four games against ACC opponents.
Score prediction: Notre Dame 49, Stanford 10
