It was a trying first year at Oklahoma (4-8 ATS, 5-6-1 O/U) for head coach Brent Venables. After a 3-0 start, the Sooners lost each of their first three Big 12 Conference games. OU extended a 24-year bowl game streak, beating rival Oklahoma State in the penultimate regular season contest.

Meanwhile, Florida State (8-4 ATS, 6-6 O/U) played some of the best college football of any team down the stretch. The Seminoles rebounded from losing three straight ACC matchups in early October to close the regular season on a five-game winning streak. The run included a thrilling win over Florida in the finale.

Oklahoma vs. Florida State Pick

Florida State -9.5 ⭐⭐

The matchup between Florida State's offense and Oklahoma's defense is one of the biggest mismatches of the entire bowl season. If the Seminoles play at an offensive level similar to how they finished the regular season, a double-digit victory is very attainable.

Florida State ranks college football's eighth in adjusted offensive efficiency. The Seminoles scored 38+ points in each of their final five games, all victories. While Venables will build up Oklahoma's D, it takes more than a year to do this.

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis could be a major problem for a Sooners' defense that struggles against dual-threat QBs. The Seminoles also have three quality running backs, Trey Benson, Lawrence Toafili and Treshaun Ward. Add in the threat of Travis and you have an offense averaging over 200 rushing yards per game.

Oklahoma has issues stopping the run, allowing 189.0 YPG. With defensive lineman Jalen Redmond opting out to prepare for the NFL Draft, it’s tough to see how OU contains the Seminoles’ ground game.

Sooners’ QB Dillon Gabriel could be a sitting duck in the pocket as both of Oklahoma’s starting tackles opted out, along with leading rusher Eric Gray. Add a pro-Florida State crowd in Orlando and laying the points is the best option for bettors.
