One of the top-ranked teams in the country will stay on the road to face a program that continues to be mired in controversy in my Notre Dame vs. North Carolina prediction. No. 3 Notre Dame enters this matchup with the nation's second-ranked scoring defense, while North Carolina has had an extra week to prepare for the Fighting Irish's top-20 offense.

Notre Dame is a large -21.5-point road favorite at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C., ahead of Saturday's 12 p.m. ET kickoff (ESPN/Disney+).

Notre Dame -21.5 (-112 via DraftKings)

I'm siding with the public and backing the Fighting Irish to stay hot on the road for a second straight week. Notre Dame just routed Purdue 49-10, and although we've seen UNC's defense play well in most spots this season, they just had their worst outing after former DC Steve Belichick resigned.

The Tar Heels' defense gave up a season-worst 215 passing yards and 5.2 YPC to Clemson with QB Tait Reynolds, a true freshman who made his first collegiate start. Now, it's CJ Carr, a veteran signal-caller leading a Notre Dame offense that has hung 41 points on 3 of its 4 opponents.

The line has moved from Notre Dame -20.5 to -21.5. We're no longer under a key number of 21, and 76 percent of public action is on the Fighting Irish to cover.

I simply can't see a world where North Carolina covers in this game. Yes, they are at home, but the defense just suffered a big setback, and the Tar Heels' offense sits outside the top 100 in points scored per game, facing a top-3 Notre Dame defense.

Go to DraftKings to bet Notre Dame -21.5 at -112 odds.

📡 SBR Edge: Coverin' Fighting Irish

Notre Dame has covered -21.5 in 3 of 4 games this season, winning by 17+ points in all contests.

Marcus Freeman's Defense Shuts Down Tar Heels

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has helped his program become one of the most dominant defenses during his tenure. The Fighting Irish have held opponents to 8.2 points per game, the second-best mark in the FBS this season.

UNC has yet to score more than 20 points against either FBS opponent played this season. The Tar Heels' defense, now without DC Steve Belichick, just gave up 5.2 YPC to a young, struggling Clemson offense. Notre Dame will win this matchup by more than 3 touchdowns in Chapel Hill.

Score prediction: Notre Dame 45, UNC 13
