My Boston College vs. SMU prediction focuses on No. 21 SMU's turnover troubles this season.

Boston College has forced the 12th-most turnovers this year, making this a surprisingly bad matchup for Kevin Jennings and the rest of his teammates Saturday. SMU is a 21.5-point betting favorite, with kickoff from Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas set for noon ET (The CW).

Boston College +21.5 (-115 via FanDuel)

Jennings and SMU turn the ball over too much to trust them as 21.5-point favorites. Entering Week 5, SMU has a -5 turnover margin, which is tied for the seventh-worst differential in the nation. And the numbers could be even worse, as one of the four turnovers they forced came when Florida State was throwing laterals with no time on the clock.

The SMU offense has nine turnovers this season, which is tied for the fifth-most in the country. Jennings has been particularly sloppy with the ball, throwing five interceptions, including at least one in every game against FBS competition.

While Boston College has also had turnover problems, with seven so far this season, the Eagles' defense has forced eight, giving Boston College a +1 turnover margin. Because Boston College's defense is so good at forcing takeaways, I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a single-digit game.

📡 SBR Edge

Boston College quarterback Mason McKenzie has thrown five interceptions this season. However, SMU has just two interceptions this season, one which occurred against UC Davis and the other which came from the hands of Missouri State's backup.

Boston College's pass defense will frustrate Jennings

Averaging 392.5 yards per game, the SMU passing attack ranks No. 1 in the nation. However, even with all those yards, SMU has yet to defeat an FBS opponent by more than 10 this season, despite facing Missouri State last week.

Boston College enters this game with the 24th-best passing defense in the nation. Though the Eagles are allowing opponents to complete 67% of their passes, the secondary has been great at keeping everything in front of them. Opponents are averaging just 6.1 yards per attempt.

Score prediction: SMU 27, Boston College 20
