Texas A&M is coming off a 50-0 win over Missouri State, its largest shutout win over an FBS opponent since 1997.
I have questions about Arizona State after losing six of its top eight players in terms of yards from scrimmage. And inexperience at quarterback is never a good thing when entering Kyle Field, so I expect big regression from Cutter Boley (transfer from Kentucky) after his 387-yard and six-touchdown performance against Morgan State.
If Marcel Reed can play mistake-free football (his 12 interceptions were the third-most in the SEC), the sky is the limit for the Aggies offense.

Isaiah Horton to score a touchdown (+140)
Marcel Reed was one of three SEC quarterbacks to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 550 yards (not including sacks) last season. While ranked 15th out of 16th SEC quarterbacks in terms of catchable ball rate (75.3%), those issues didn’t surface in Week 1.
Horton hauled in four catches for 76 yards and a touchdown in his first game with his third team. Meanwhile, Arizona State has only one player on the roster who recorded more than three sacks last season, so I expect Reed to get comfortable in the pocket and find his top receiver.

If Texas A&M is to cover the two-touchdown spread, it has a better chance to do so and more margin for error in a high-scoring game. Arizona State showed its ability to keep up in the scoring after dropping 70 points on Morgan State. But I don’t expect the Sun Devils to be able to slow down an explosive Aggies offense with how much roster turnover they had on the defensive side of the ball.

I’m aware that Texas A&M was ranked in the preseason top 10 for the first time since 2022, and that it failed to finish in the AP top 10 each of the last six times it was ranked that high to start the season. But this isn’t a game where the Aggies are in danger of an upset.
I believe this line gives too much credit for Kenny Dillingham’s success over the last two years in leading a much different roster to 19 wins in that span. To be safe until I see how Texas A&M's offensive and defensive lines hold up against a power conference squad, I'm taking the conservative approach with the alternate spread and bringing the line down through the key number of -14.
