Giroux spent the first 15 years of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, and he served as their captain for nearly a decade.
However, with Philadelphia missing the postseason the past two years, it isn’t surprising Giroux returning to the club is trading in long-shot territory at DraftKings.
After all, the 34-year-old Canadian is likely looking to contend for a Stanley Cup.
With that in mind, though, Ottawa has the second shortest odds. The Senators are certainly not in the championship conversation currently with +6500 odds to win it all next season at DraftKings – even if they’ve had a solid offseason to date and appear to be turning the corner.
The field is the current betting favorite with the Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche also available in the market.
Florida acquired Giroux at the most recent trade deadline, and he piled up a respectable three goals and 20 assists through 18 regular-season games before adding three tallies and five helpers across 10 postseason showings for the Cats.
Edmonton and Colorado met in the Western Conference Finals, and the Avs ultimately won the Cup and are the current betting favorites to win it all again next season.
Both teams fit as contenders that could benefit tremendously from the addition of Giroux.
Furthermore, the St. Louis Blues have a deep and talented roster, and they also have the salary-cap space to offer Giroux a handsome contract. Giroux would also project to slide into a go-to role with the Blues, whereas he might be slotted into a secondary gig with the other noted contenders.
With an estimated $78 million in career earnings, according to Cap Friendly, is Giroux more interested in joining a winning organization or cashing in with a team on the rise like the Senators?
