FanDuel Canada and BetMGM Suspend U.S. Election Markets
In the wake of the attack on former President Donald Trump on Saturday, the U.S. Election betting market has seen some changes. While you could bet on the event's outcome just days ago, some of our best sportsbooks in Canada have decided to remove the markets. Whether they'll return prior to the November election remains up in the air.
Both FanDuel Canada and BetMGM Canada have removed markets related to the U.S. Election following the shocking assassination attempt on former President Trump. With sportsbooks that still have the market up, he remains the favorite in the Presidential Election betting odds.
What they're saying
FanDuel was the first of the sites to suspend wagering on the election, commenting, "In light of recent events, FanDuel has made the decision to suspend its U.S. election markets."
The sports betting giant also avoided questions from Covers about whether the betting markets would reopen in the future once things cooled down, adding they would have no further comments at this time.
BetMGM Canada followed suit later in the day, but had not released an official statement concerning their decision to remove the market north of the border. Residents of the United Kingdom can still bet on the outcome with BetMGM.
Other options
DraftKings Canada and bet365 still have the market available for bettors in Canada in the markets where they operate.
American bettors are out of luck, as betting on the outcome of the US Election has never been an option at legal sportsbooks nationwide.
