On March 7, Caesars Sportsbook — one of our best sports betting sites —announced an enhanced and extended partnership deal with the National Hockey League.

The extension of the landmark deal comes on the heels of North Carolina sports betting becoming legalized and the increase in Caesars Sportsbook promos set to become available.

It also builds on a relationship between the sports betting giant and pro hockey's premier league that was forged back in 2019 with William Hill, which has since departed the North American scene in favor of Caesars.

It is said to be a multi-year deal that will maintain Caesars Entertainment's status as an official sports betting and gaming partner of the NHL. It also gives the NHL the continued opportunity to provide valuable fan-enhancement opportunities.

“Since the inception of our partnership with Caesars, together we have focused on innovative ways to engage our passionate fanbase,” NHL vice president of business development Jason Jazayeri said in the release. “We look forward to the next chapter of our relationship focused on delivering unparalleled access to our sport for NHL fans.”

Perhaps more importantly

Perhaps more importantly for the sports betting giant, the extended NHL partnership will, for the first time, allow Caesars access to what an NHL press release called "league-owned intellectual property," which includes NHL team logos and imagery.

Among other things, the right to use NHL marks will be used in the creation and implementation of NHL-branded iCasino gaming opportunities for crossover clients interested in Caesars Entertainment's online casino options, which now includes Caesars Palace Online Casino.

"With the defending Stanley Cup Champions residing in our home city of Las Vegas, we have a front-row seat to the excitement and passion that the NHL provides,” said Eric Hession, President of Caesars Digital. “This partnership extension with the League continues our efforts to build on that fan passion by bringing unforgettable experiences to all of our valued customers across both sports betting and online casino.”

NHL's evolution to sports betting acceptance

The NHL, like most North American pro sports leagues, was reluctant to embed itself into the sports gambling world, but things have changed. Not only has the league been involved with sports betting partnership since 2019, but the NHL has also been involved in aiding wagering companies with their iGaming solutions.

The NHL's evolution to all-in acceptance of the legal sports betting industry, aside from their numerous sports betting partnerships, is demonstrated by its enhanced relationship with BetMGM, one of our best sports betting apps, a company that also re-upped with the league last December.

As part of that relationship expansion, BetMGM was able to roll out an NHL-branded online slots game "NHL Gold Blitz," which has been in operation at BetMGM online destinations in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and in Canada's only legal sports betting province, Ontario.

Rewards to get more air-time

As part of the renewed partnership deal with the NHL, Caesars has in essence bought some more exposure to its industry-leading Rewards Program, Caesars Rewards.

The latest NHL press release boasts that "every wager placed rewards the bettor with Tier Credits for status and Reward Credits that can be used to unlock world-class Caesars Rewards experiences and discounted getaways at Caesars Entertainment destinations across the United States and Canada."

Thanks to the latest tie-up, the Caesars Rewards will be promoted on television and internet-based NHL broadcasts, including the league playoffs, which are just around the corner.
