A bettor in New Jersey has placed two $1,000 wagers on the Utah State Aggies to win the 2023 College Football National Championship. The Aggies were listed a +100000 for both bets, so the payout would total a cool $2 million.

The Aggies went 11-3 last season, 6-2 in the Mountain West Conference, and won the inaugural Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl presented by Stifel at SoFi Stadium. Utah State also won the Mountain West Conference Championship Game over the No. 19 San Diego State Aztecs.

Utah State is bringing back starting quarterback Logan Bonner, and he threw for 3,628 yards and 36 touchdowns in his first season in the MWC. However, he’ll be without three of his top receivers from the 2021 campaign, as seniors Deven Thompkins, Derek Wright, and Brandon Bowling have all left the program.

Overall, the Aggies are expected to return eight starters on offense and another five on defense — not exactly the returnee numbers you’d like to see from a team outside Power 5 hoping to win it all. After all, last year’s Cincinnati Bearcats are the lone non-Power 5 program to ever advance to the College Football Playoff through its eight seasons of existence.

Interestingly, the optimistic Aggies bettor will probably have an excellent estimation of how his Utah State wager will fare early as the Aggies have a road game against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the second week of the season.

Should Utah State pull off a road victory in Tuscaloosa, AL, the Aggies definitely won’t be paying +100000 to win the National Championship any longer.
