4 AFC West Minicamp Storylines: Melvin Gordon isn’t Going Anywhere

Minicamps around the NFL have concluded, and there are several interesting storylines from the four AFC West teams.

Melvin Gordon Not Conceding Top Duties

While second-year running back Javonte Williams impressed as a rookie last year, Gordon is clearly focused on remaining an integral part of the offense.

Additionally, fantasy football managers are likely to remain frustrated with the rushing committee, as it’s probably best for Denver to rely on a dual attack out of the backfield.

Williams is priced at +2000 to lead the NFL in rushing yards this season at FanDuel Sportsbook, and Gordon comes in well behind at +7500.

Chargers Aren’t Rushing Derwin James Back

The versatile safety oozes game-breaking talent, and while he’s expected to be ready for training camp, the Los Angeles Chargers aren’t rushing James back from his labrum surgery in February.

A two-time Pro Bowler, James projects to be fully healthy for Week 1, and he’s currently trading at +5000 to win the AP Defensive Player of the Year Award at Caesars Sportsbook.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling Clicking Early with Patrick Mahomes

Landing with the Kansas City Chiefs should ease the shift from Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to Mahomes for Valdes-Scantling. Early observations suggest the 27-year-old wide receiver is also clicking with his new signal-caller.

Mahomes is +900 to lead the NFL in passing yards at DraftKings Sportsbook, and if he pulls off the feat, deep-threat Valdes-Scantling will need a career-best showing.

Do Raiders Have Money to Keep Darren Waller?

The Las Vegas Raiders have opened their wallet for quarterback Derek Carr, wide receivers Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, and defensive end Maxx Crosby. So, the question remains, what about tight end Waller?

Currently, Waller is the 17th-highest-paid tight end in the NFL, but he’s listed with the fifth shortest odds at the position to lead the league in receiving yards at FanDuel.
