#603Thanks, honestly tried not to overthink it but when I saw the price I thought it was good value even with the stats of Federer favoured here having not lost before the QF since 2008. And probably why the price was set high.
But did like Rublevs form leading into the tournament playing well and I was very impressed with his win over Stan.
He also noted in the media that he was really pumped to play against Federer for the first time and wanted to give it his best so I think that motivation on the back of some good form contributed to it to.Comment -

#604Agree with the above, great pick on Rub. Do you think he'll best Medvedev?Comment -

#605It's a tough one because Medvedev has played some matches but playing well and he's here to play too. I am going to go with my belief that he'll suffer a let down and take Medvedev to win in two sets. I don't think the high of the Federer win will be enough to carry him into a match against a guy who has been playing (probably) better then him in this US hard court series.Comment -

#607Yeah, I think you're right.
I'm going to hold off, and watch live... If Rublev takes first set and the price is OK I might bet on him live. Medvedev often gives up when he's behindComment -

#608I will be honest, and it's probably a really contrarian opinion, despite his form if he is highly overvalued against someone in the early (maybe 1st) round of the US Open depending on who he plays I could see fading him potentially being huge value. Because of exactly what you said heh. I think if someone can drag out five sets and is a scrapper its definately possible.
Lost 1R in the French with similar circumstances despite some nice flashes on clay (beating Djokovic) who went on to win Madrid.Comment -

#610Thanks, I didn't want to get put off by the loss against him in Montreal, and almost didn't do it. There are probably multiple examples where players play each other in between a short space of time or b2b tournaments like these Masters or a smaller events where either they split the wins or spread coverings.
Was actually surprised I got better odds for him the second time around despite maybe the h2h mismatch and matchup in general as I thought Gasquet has looked better and recovered from his injury that was plauging him in Europe. And in his previous match against Bautista.Comment -

#612I watched Gasquet beat Delbonis on a tiny side court on Wednesday and he looked very healthy and very motivated. I was also surprised at his price against Bautista.
Tomorrow is supposed to be quite hot here in Cincinnati (even hotter on Sunday). With a mid afternoon match under the strong sun, I can't see Gasquet being able to hang with the younger and well rested Goffin.Comment -

#613On first looks at the prices and current form I am inclined to agree, Goffin has also been pretty good too. Had his test against Fritz, and has done well ever since.
Not sure if Gasquet can keep backing up these performances eitherComment -

#614On another note I didn’t think Rublev looked that bad against Medvedev, sprayed shots and missed shots he made earlier but when your opponent isn’t missing it is pretty hard
You could tell he was trying but as I mentioned the likeliness that it’d happen he was probably overwhelmed a bit with his win over Federer.
Didn’t really concentrate on serve and gave away some cheap points.
Tennis always has little margin for error and today was no differentComment -

#626Thanks! I do try and look out for players who can struggle in the conditions in the august heat in New York, and on the flip side have seen Kukushkin play a lot of tough matches here and push some good players.
Dellien should have paid out too, for those with the right books, most of them do pay MLs I believe and I think it’s worth it and can even live with the losses because of the retirements (that I grade on here as losses)
It also helps turn those average days into good ones :PComment -

#628Will be interesting to play the game of, 'which big underdog gets up this time'. But minus the big names, I'm not too keen on them.
Goffin is seasoned and has looked good in the US Summer, and it's hard to fade Medvedev who is the in-form player at the moment. Plus he's playing a challenger guy who has played predominantly on clay so far who got a bit fortunate with his opponent (who should have never) been so short to begin with. Kecmanovic is very short but I've watched him since he made the US Juniors Final here and he's accustomed to the conditions since he spends/has spent a lot of time in America playing college tennis and he is based in Florida where it's also warm. He won't struggle with the conditions in comparison to some of the other guys I think and Lorenzi played someone well beneath his level in 1R.
There will probably be upsets, just don't see a big one happening.
But Womens? Take your pick!Comment -
