COLUMBUS, Ohio — Emilio Renteria and Brian Carroll scored to keep the Columbus Crew ahead of New York in Major League Soccer with a 2-0 victory over the Red Bulls on Saturday night.
New York's Thierry Henry watched from a suite because he is not ready to play yet. The French striker is expected to debut in an exhibition match against Tottenham Hotspur of England on Thursday.
Renteria ended the Crew's 245-minute scoreless streak in the 20th minute. Carroll scored his first goal since Aug. 16, 2008, in the 48th minute.
Columbus ended New York's five-game MLS unbeaten streak and moved to 31 points, five ahead of the second-place Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference.
