The ref's get evaluated and graded, and if this guy wanted to ref one of the knockout games he just sealed his fate. You don't mind losing on a legit goal or call, but this was really bad. I'm sure his story is going to be a foul on the US pushing/shoving or the like, when in reality Slovenia was using WWE tactics on that set piece. The best ref out there is Howard Webb of the UK and the reason he did the Champions League final and will probably do the World Cup final (as long as England isn't in it)

Ref was an African Nation guy from Mali, he also was the ref for the final of the African Nations Cup. FIFA spreads the refs out from all areas of the globe, and he's the one selected from the Africa region. Also FIFA lives for this kind of controversial crap, and their smug attitude was that the ref didn't have to give a reason for the "foul". I love watching football, but FIFA at times really wreaks of funny business. Just a horrible call at the absolute worst time.

The US team and fa should not this lie, they should kick up a big fuss and a media storm about this pathetic ref. Even though it won't change anything, it puts psychological pressure on refs to not give a crap call next time.

USA is the biggest nation in population but a small footballcountry. Whatever you think, USA is still a small ant with no football traditions compared to the major elephants in europe and southamerica. And that's what annoy me, this would never happen to a major european football power. Its time for US soccer federation and US media to step up and put some heat on corrupt FIFA.

lol..it had nothing to do with it being the US, though your conspiracy theory is kind of funny. That ref was having a bad game on both sides of the ball. The guy just saw a lot of grabbing and wrestling and called it. If you believe the guy called it because it was the US...that's the angry fan reaction. That ref is from Mali and called some real battles in African football and the Nations Cup Final, so he's probably used to getting ripped.

It was never a free kick in the first place. 'Manu' Altidore should have been given a yellow, or by this time a red, for yet another dive. I don't know if the ref had that in mind, but refs do make makeup calls in all sports, and he blew his whistle almost immediately after the kick, and long before it was over the line. The fact that it resulted in a goal is irrelevant, because play had already stopped. There was no goal disallowed. Play had already stopped.
