The national election model released by Oxford Economics on Wednesday predicted rising unemployment and inflation will prevent Trump from being reelected.
The study predicted that the president would win just 35 per cent of the popular vote, which marks a sharp turn-around from the group's pre-coronavirus prediction which put Trump at winning 55 per cent of the vote.

The model has proven accurate in its predictions every year since 1948, except from 1968 and 1976, and works off the assumption that the U.S. economy will not have bounced back from the pandemic by this autumn, with unemployment rates above 13 per cent, and household incomes 6% lower.


This assumes nothing will change between now and November.
I doubt the Trump team will allow "nothing" to happen.
They are making their "halftime adjustments" as we speak.

I don't think the debates will matter as much as the status of the economy and the virus in October/November.

No one will be surprised by Biden's screw ups in a debate or in any given speech. I think everyone will see it as... "Yep, that's the Joe we know." If anyone is surprised, they must have been living in isolation for the last decade.

If the economy recovers at all and the virus doesn't come screaming back in the fall, Trump will win. Otherwise, it might be close.

Doesn't look good for Trump.As long as things stay completely or partially shut, Biden doesn't have to campaign and may even be able to avoid debates; that's a huge advantage for him.
