Two high flying offenses here but only one of these two teams plays any defense and that is N. Illinois. If you remove the Army stats from N. Illinois resume they have played some defense against the run. In those other 4 games they only gave up 127 yards a game. Yes they got ripped by Army's option but it's an offense they don't see that often and they struggled with it. Ball St on the other hand can't stop anyone as last week they gave up 45 to Kent St in a 45-43 barnburner loss. The week before that they did upset S. Florida but as we have seen this S. Florida team has regressed from last year. You can bet N. Illinois will not take Ball St for granted as last year as an 18 point favorite they only won at home 41-38. N. Illinois was ripe for a letdown in that game as they just played back to back weekday games on ESPN and the first one was a 63-60 epic primetime battle with Toledo in which they won as a 9.5 point u©nderdog. Then the next week on TV again at Bowling Green they rolled 45-14. So after back to back prime time games one was a 63 point output and the other a complete blowout N.Illinois was feeling pretty good about themselves and looked right past a Ball St team that they beat the year before 59-21. Rest assure N. Illinois knows they almost lost to this team last year and I love when a Big favorite has a close scare one year then are playing them the following year and there is a big adjustment to the line. It also must be noted that the score was misleading as N. Illinois had 43 first downs to just 18 for Ball St in that game. N. Illinois put up 710 yards to just 398 for Ball St. One play was basically a 14 point turnaround as N. Illinois fumbled deep in Ball St territory and a Ball St defender picked it up and ran it back 92 yards for a Touchdown. You flip that one play and last years 3 point score would have been a 17 point blowout. N.Illinois is the much better team and it will show today as I have them winning this game 45-27.
