    At the DMV.....

And I've been here for 4 hours. Currently G097 and the last G they called was 071. Trying to get my Real ID, and I was not able to set an appt because the soonest one was after my license expires. Penetrating stupid.

They have 14 windows here and only 4 are open. I think 9 might be sleeping in the back.

Last time I was there to renew where I live it took me 45 minutes- 1 hour to renew. They are pretty good at streamlining once you have a number and they have dedicated counters for just renewals which goes faster since they're just making sure nothing changed on your license since last time.

The PITA is waiting to get a number in the first place because when you walk in, they make you get into one long line with everyone to see a "receptionist" who basically checks to make sure you have all of the necessary documents you need to present before issuing you a number to see someone. For me, I just had to show them my current license, and as long as nothing needs to be updated, they just hand you a number to wait to be seen at the counter.

However, when there's several people in front of you trying to get a license or ID for the first time who either don't have their paperwork out and then proceed to dig into their purse or bags/envelopes looking around, or they plop 100 documents on the counter for the receptionist to look for what is acceptable, or they want to argue with the receptionist why a torn up letter doesn't count, it makes the overall wait fairly long. My favorite was the one who walked in never having a license and didn't think he needed anything other than his presence to take the driving test to get his license.

Once I had a number, I was probably called up and out the door in 20 minutes.

I did a renewal in Texas earlier this year. Pretty smooth. Less than hour.

I always go 2 cities over where the old people live in retirment homes.

Most of those old fuks don’t drive anymore, thank goodness.

In and out in 30 min or less depending on what I am there for.

Just waited it out. 5.5 hours to get my Real ID. In hindsight I should have just renewed my license online and used my passport to fly. Passport would have been good through my next license renewal and I could have gotten my Real ID the next time around.
