If we cut back military spending (we aren't officially at war with anyone, these regime change wars we participate in are of our own doing) and have Corporations and Billionaires pay their fair share, start a jobs program tied to rebuilding our infrastructure the tax rates for the vast majority of us would stay fairly stable. If single payer healthcare was initiated it would result in a tax increase but that increase would be considerably less than the savings you would gain from not having to pay premiums to insurance companies (who are making insane amounts of money right now).

GOP sans its religious wing is not anti gambling in general, but they are for regulating vice....and the prevailing thought is that it's not possible to effectively regulate gambling without having a quasi casino pop up on every corner....the profits of which are minimal to the State, the costs to protect overwhelming.
