Sour Toe Cocktail




There is a drink that you can only get in one place in the world - it’s called the ‘Sourtoe Cocktail’, and it’s served at the Sourdough Saloon in Dawson City. The ‘cocktail’ consists of a shot of pure hard alcohol, and garnished with a mummified human toe that has been preserved in salt. According to the legend, you only earn the distinction of being a true “Sourtoe-er” if the toe touches your lips for the duration of the shot. Saloon employees say that the high alcoholic content of the drinks keeps the 2-3 toes on rotation sterile enough to touch the lips of the almost dozen or so people brave enough to attempt this every night. The cost to add the toe to your drink is an extra $5, but it does not include any drinks containing beer or milk, as it’s said to be bad for the toe.
