How hilarious is the media in this Boston investigation
CNN breaks a story saying an arrest has been made....

Twitter and other news agencies blow up with the scoop....

5 minutes pass and all others report "FBI says they have NO arrest, repeat NO arrest has been made"

CNN "we have conflicting reports but we are being told now that at a presser to be held tonight officials will either say there has been an arrest or that there has been NO arrest, you heard that first here on CNN"

Anderson Cooper and Chris Cuomo continue to talk about how amazing the FBI did from going to a person of interest on a video to now having him in custody...and that "we don't want to speculate, but if an arrest has been made what is he going to admit to, what will they get from him" then "I reported that FBI was looking for a brown skinned mail and was inundated with people saying that was offensive, so I don't want to speculate if there actually was a brown skinned male arrested or if he was white"

After a 30 minutes everyone but CNN is saying definitively NO arrest has been made then CNN comes on with an FBI guy who says, I have 3 sources and 2 close to the investigation say NO arrest....but I'm going to hold off on my third source who is still looking into this, so let's not speculate"

All part of the "First!" mentality. It permeates everywhere.

Good example are forums...Team X winning game 1 of a 7 game series and poster Y starts a thread congratulating them.

Harder for some people to find victories in life, even small ones. So they'll take being first over being right.

History rarely remembers who broke the news first. They rarely however forget when you're wrong.

As always, best of luck to any dark skinned dudes in Boston. Latest "news" can't make it any easier.

The problem is what the problem always is money. All the media, with the exception of public broadcasting, do the same. We will be seeing this stuff for a long time. Do you remember OJ, of course you do, how did the media handle that? They fell all over each other attempting to get ahead and we watched that nonsense forever. Do you remember how public tv handled it? They gave it very little coverage because it doesn't deserve it. Am I saying this doesn't deserve coverage, of course not it does but the media will kill us with this coverage and that includes Fox guys. Important stories deserve appropriate coverage but all media is morphing into entertainment and "let us scare you because that drives profit" more than appropriate news.

What do you expect from CNN. Fox news is destroying them, so they try to scoop the world, only to be proven wrong again. CNN is a joke run by Liberals, who are also jokes.

If you think about it, the media is like a best friend to the suspects. In the race to spew out what their sources leak to them....the bad guys can just watch the news and find out if they are identified, when the warrants will be issued, where the raids will take place, who of the accomplices the cops have also found. Also gives them time to play xbox or eat a sandwich until they see the SWAT team on tv from the helicopters rolling down the highway. Then they can choose to either stay and shoot it out or leave a trap and run to the next place.

          Pretty sad really

              Hey IP

I guess this is the price we pay for having a constitution and a bill of rights, I believe, like you probably that the alternative would be a ton worse.

I'm a big believer in close to the vest information regarding criminal/terrorist investigations though. The official or employee who leaked the 'scoop' should be fired/arrested and while we do have a free press...they should use better judgement. I know Anderson Cooper cant be arrested for repeating what a source tells him...but its sort of counterintuitive to screw up an ongoing investigation and then report that the public is losing faith in law enforcement to make progress when YOU are the one who just screwed it up.

Must agree with all of this my friend, you know the good thing about this. The good thing is we are able to discuss this problem, we realize that in the best type of government in the world these type discussions happen, we realize that we have a balancing act between government, law enforcement and the media. This is a good thing, not a bad thing in the long run.
