#38what is a typical commission per car sale? I always wondered this. I know a few used car owners and none of em can seem to give me a straight answer.
I was once told the profit margin on a new car(not the commision) was only about $1500 for the dealership. If that's the case how could they afford to give away 2-3 years worth of free oil changes car washes and maintenance. The labor wage alone would eat up every ounce of profit they make.Comment -

#41Bronxer a lot of people do stuff like that in this economy. I know 4 people that got a BA and couldn't find a job in their career field or even get a job that paid decent. 3 of them joined the military because the military would pay off their student loans.Comment -

#45Commissioned salesmen are the worst. Cant even take 5 steps onto a lot or in a store without these morons begging you to buy something.
Odds are i've already decided that i'm buying something, but you just lost money because you acted like a desperate, slimeball.
The guy who doesn't bother me will get the sale.Comment -

#50I worked in a warehouse with a guy who left to sell cars. He stated the commissions were about 300 per sale when I saw him months later. He said he was averaging about five sales a week. He worked long hours six days a week.Comment -

#55I worked selling cars for a day back in my early 20's. I was there the whole fukin day and already knew I wasn't coming back the next day when I finally got a prospective buyer. It was 2 broads that lived in Galveston beach, both were 7's. These bitches were hitting on me hard, saying how I should come over to their beach house and party after work, etc. We were test driving a Mazda 3 that had one of those sticks that mimic a stick shift, you know the ones that you can shift gears without a clutch. I had never seen those and the car was stuck in 2nd. gear the whole freaking test drive lol. That shit kept making a huge noise from the engine because of the gear it was on and we were going like 40 lol.
Funny thing is these bitches actually bought the car, and before they left they said "well you have our #'s and the address so if you want to come over let us know". I was so sick with the prospect of being in that place every week that I didn't even bother hooking up with the broads. Normally I would have fuked the shit out of both of them but I wasn't in the mood.
Anyway, that dealer paid a dime per new car sold but since I didn't have a sales code, I had to put the sale under some other guy's code and had to split it. Got my check in the mail for a nickel about 2 weeks later.Comment -

#69Nothing wrong with being a car salesman. Its certainly not a reflection on his college experience. He's probably what, like 22-23 years old? The fact is, whatever your degree is in, no one in the business world will take you seriously until you're 27-28 years old. That's simply the way that it is. I realize theres always exceptions, but until that age you simply haven't experienced enough life to know much.
Both of my last 2 summers before I graduated college I sold Encyclopedias door-to-door for a great company that hired college guys for this. They took you and a couple of other guys you didn't even know and shipped you somewhere across the country to live in some host families basement and ride a bike selling "Learning Tools" 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. It was the hardest, most miserable work you could possibly imagine. But if you stuck it out, at the end of those 3 months, you had made anywhere from 30 - 45k. Honest to God.
I have no doubt that learning how to sell in such a brutal climate like door-to-door did more for me than anything else I could've done. If you want to learn how well you deal with rejection, go hit up a bunch of lower to middle class homes and try to talk them into spending their hard earned $ to buy some fukkin books from you.
Give 100% at your new job, Sammy. You never know what might arise from this experience. I think its a fantastic opportunity for you.
Congrats.Comment -
