Like I said, it's no magic bullet. But if you have a better long-term indicator for winning I'm all ears....

The objective is to hit 100% of your plays. The reasonable objective is to maintain a profit and "stay in business." Obtaining that goal can definitely be helped by tracking how often you beat the closing number. Period.
