This has been entertaining reading this thread. You can pretty much tell who the posters that have a college degree or more are.

#108Originally posted by TeelaI believe that the original question was posed because some people feel that a college education makes a person “better,” not based on income. I don’t think anyone is denying that a college education is correlated to income, but that does not make a person better. There are many people that do not follow this rule, regardless of what the research says. This does not always follow the trend, but it does happen. Does that make them “smarter” in anyway? It depends on the definition of “smart.”

#110"Better" is an impossible word to quantify.
I will say this, however. Having several degrees has allowed me to work in fields those who are not college educated could not have done and being fortunate enough to learn about the world by traveling the world for years has given me street smarts on many different streets around the globe.
Better? No. Much more interesting in a general conversation. Definitely. I have more to share, more ways to share it and, because most have been where I've journeyed, I can educate in a way the uneducated, untraveled cannot ...
Don't hate me 'cause of higher learning and travel. Embrace diversity!Comment -

#113Originally posted by PanicDidn't you say you taught at a university for 6 years? They must be so proud. Look at you. Sitting on a gambling forum trying to force your will and belittle people. Were you a professor there? I think the things you displayed in this thread were alot my dangerous than mine. Ecspecially since you held an influencial positon over the youth of today. You sir are a fvckin albatross around the neck of those that try to branch out and be someone. You never taught at a university and if you did, what a shame for those that paid money to attend.

You guys who are sitting here talking about "street smarts" and fixinig engines for a living and doing construction work and who would you rather call to fix an air conditioner a guy who studies Shakespere or a guy with "street smarts" sound like total donkeys IMO. Almost like you have to minimize the dissonance you experience everyday in your life that the decision you made to forego your education was the absolute best decision you ever made in this world.
What's even sadder is the belief that if we can find one guy on Forbes top income list who dropped out of high school, then by God we should declare that school is a complete waste of time. Why don't we just start working at age 9. Or better yet, "i know a guy who is rich who never went to school" argument.
I am not sure what to feel. I guess mainly I feel sorry for you if you think being "street smart" is a really good quality to have or some sort of compliment. I'll need that next time I go to a pawn shop or am involved in a gang fight.

#131Yeah, based on my posts this entire thread where i was talking about journal articles, social science research, etc.... Can't you tell that I work at a university? Do you think the average person in the street is able to cite off-hand research articles from sociology? Do you think the average person knows statistics/research methods without some form of formal education?

#133Originally posted by BuddyBearRight, and of course you could not identify a single claim I made that was not supported by empirical evidence. Guys like you make me feel great for having spent so much time in school. To be ignorant and uneducated is the worst possible thing in life I kid you not. Even the arguments I am having to respond to are so beyond idiotic, it reassures me that my time in school was well spent.

BuddyBear,
I just got done reading all the posts about this topic. Also, I have have read a lot of your other posts but never paid attention to them as much as this one. I am not on this forum to try to be better than anyone because nobody is better than anyone else. Myself, I am very close to be receiving my PHD, but I do not use any of my skills for work. I for one just like school and enjoy the experience over and over. It means nothing to me if someone has an education or not. My best employee only has a high school education and he has made it to be my main supervisor. Basically I just want to let you know I commend you and your posts and I agree with what you are saying here. I know a lot of people do not see eye to eye and people take things the wrong way on a message board. I totally get what you are saying and I agree....המוסד

I tried to argue with facts, evidence, statistics and make sound logical arguments based on empirical evidence. They argue with emotion and factually incorrect information. It's not my fault my target audience for this thread can't comprehend anything I said.
