Dumbass should've shot himself for even thinkin of betting 10 mil on that crap, I'm glad they are passionate about kickball but c'mon more than their life, talk about losing a grip on reality.

#145This was really more about a gambler that lost a fortune on the game than being mad about a soccer play, I was wrong to suggest that this was a crazed soccer fan as it was clearly some1 extremely angry about the money he'd lost on the game, rather than Colombia's failure to advance. Though reading the youtube posts by ppl claiming "Colombians don't forgive mistakes" shows there are several retarded Codumbians who take their soccer a few levels too serious.Comment -

#146The question "Why do Americans DESPISE soccer?" is fundementally wrong.
The reality is that Americans do like Soccer and like it quite a bit. The 1994 World Cup showed that and put an end to that discussion. Soccer is played at all levels in this country from club level to professional levels. At all major universities and colleges there is a soccer team to be found. You'd be hard pressed to find any 10 year old who doesn't have a soccer ball laying around somewhere.
However, the corporations and corporate media have said NO over and over again to soccer and told Americans what sports to like and watch. So the better question then is, "Why do corporations and the corporate media DESPISE soccer?" You see, soccer is 90 minutes + extra time played in two 45 minute halfs with a 15 minute intermission. The way soccer is played there is no commericals b/c the 45 minutes in each half is continuous. That is, there is NOT ONE SINGLE COMMERCIAL to be seen by viewers which is a major no-no for broadcasts. No station is seriously going to pick up sports programming that does not allow them to sell advertising time to corporations.
Instead, corportations and the corporate media are perfectly content with baseball, basketball, and football as the primary American sports. How much of a basketball broadcast is actual game time compared with commercial time? It's about even. Same with football...same with basketball. Soccer won't work, not b/c the American public has said NO but b/c when you grow up in a corporate enviroment with a corporate childhood watching corporate media all day....don't expect there to be sports that don't feature commericals.
America is all about money. Don't expect that to change.....Comment -

#147To add to what Buddybear saidthe NFL, NBA, MLB are corporations that want to make money and will sell their souls to the Devil for dollars and would care less who wins the trophy each year. Steroids in their players bodies and breaking fraudelent records is considered an investment for their business plan and is not discouraged.

#151Buddy Bear is right. Corporations run our sports. Every time I watch an NFL game I get pissed off when I watch the clock start running again after someone goes out of bounds. The television networks complained that the NFL games were lasting too long and disrupting their schdeules. So the NFL went and changed the rules for them
Starting up the clock has cut a lot of plays out of the game. Does anyone have a stat showing how many less plays are run in a game since the rule change?
As far as soccer, I played it when I was very young but never really cared for it. But in the year or two that has changed. Betting on the sport made me actually watch it and I have gained tremendous respect for the players and the game. I now watch the English Premiere games that are shown here and watched a lot of the Euro 08 matches. During the week I would take my lunch break and go next door and catch the second half.
Since DirecTV carries it, when the Premier league starts up again, I might subscribe to Setanta Network so I can watch more soccer.Comment -

#152I don't know about that own goal by Escobar. It looks like he did it on purpose, maybe he had some major coin on the US or someone else did and they paid him off. Colombia has a pretty good team this time around. They've beaten Argentina 2-1 and drew with Brazil 0-0, not easy tasks to accomplish. They're in 3rd place currently in the qualifiers and haven't lost yet so they'll probably make it to South Africa in 2010. FIFA.comComment
