Common? are you seriously saying running about 10km as the stats show, kicking a ball about is strenuous?

Have you ever watched rugby league? No To's, no padding, real contact.

Soccer is big in all of the world, because they don't have the money to play the sports we do, like baseball, football hockey, you can get a crap bal, and kick it all over the place! A very boring game. I appreciate all the aspects of the game, but as we see with hockey you can't get people to watch games that the only chance of scoring is once every 30 min

Rugby is for crazy, brain injured, drunk toothless rapists. The difference between soccer players and rugby players is that women throw themselves to soccer players whereas rugby players throw themselves to women and get arrested for rape.

Doesn't Ronaldo like a group of guys dressed as girls "throwing" themselves at him?

Are they the type of woman you like pavyracer?

i know a ton of basketball players and hockey players friends and ask each one, which is tougher and they all say, hockey by a country mile. try going into the corners and battle for the puck for 30 seconds, you will clutch your heart and collapse. basketball players are hardly sprinting, they walk and jog and pace all game. not hockey.

nobody plays hockey at a young age because it is so expensive to play this is why very few get really good at it

Football, or soccer, is despised for the following reasons:

                      1) If a game is tied at the end, they don't truly settle it on the field. They have the equivalent of a FT shooting contest to determine an OT basketball game. Don't tell me you are in the best shape in the world and then that you can't finish a match. It is a pathetic way to end a hard fought match. (also a weakness of hockey)

                      2) Off-sides is a laugh. Having an entire defense run away from their own goal area, as to cause an off-sides is hilarious to watch. (another weakness of hockey)

                      3) The play acting and fake life threatening injuries all the while to get a yellow card shown is not worthy of sport. (a weakness of basketball)

                      4) The fact teams go into a prevent alignment within minutes of scoring their first goal on occasion reminds me of the NBA before the shot clock came into effect. And it is as boring as watching grass grow, and even less productive.

                      5) The fact that a red card, or two yellows, means you miss the next match many times takes the best player off the pitch and, therefore, lessens interest in the match, at least from an American perspective. Imagine Jordan getting a 't' in game one of the playoffs, a 't' in game two and then being automatically suspended for game 3 ... ludicrious.

                      6) The fact that, in non-World Cup matches, some teams play for a tie before the game even starts. They have no intention of winning, as a tie would be a win for them. I wonder if they like kissing their sisters as well.

I could go on ... these are just a few of the lowlights.

I'm American, I love soccer, in fact I was sad today cause this was the last important footy match until the EPL starts up again in two months

If all other sports died, and soccer was left, I wouldn't mind.

The only reasons Americans hate soccer is cause they didn't invent it and aren't the best at it (mind you America isn't even the best at basketball and baseball anymore) and because the World Championship is actually the World Championship and not the "all the teams are american" world championship.

Truth is, reason I can't get into soccer is the amount of luck involved when 1 score can very likely win a game and 2 scores you can practically turn the TV off. The ball bounces around 20 guys or w/e it is on a corner and it happens to bounce off one of the guys head (which doesn't really seem like funny having some1 kick a ball at your head all day) at a strange angle for a goal which determines the game, I'm just not sure I like the incredible luck factor. Also saw a 2 hour game the other day which seemed great, both teams gave their all and after literally 2 hours game was tied, I figured OT, first goal wins like in NFL. They do this horseshit penalty kicks crap where the goalie doesn't even know which direction to jump to defend the ball is coming in so fast, it's a fukin joke to determine the winner this way, practically no skill involved whatsoever

yeah, that f-ckin offside in soccer's got to go. i saw a game a few weeks ago where i had the over, and i swear, there were 3 beautiful goals scored and each time, I JUMPED.. yesssssssssssssss... and then 4 seconds after, they waive off the goal saying OFFSIDE.. wtf??? you don't even hear a whistle. this really kills the momentum and excitement of game. yes, this happened 3 times in one game.. imagine that sh-it. and even the players that scored and the fans screaming, didn't know it was offside. wtf is that???

this ruins the game.. you never know anymore if a goal counts or not. you have to wait a few seconds. it reminds me of the NHL's foot in the crease rule where every goal was practically disallowed because of a foot in the crease. but they took this out. soccer should do something about that fu-ckin offside rule.. ban it.. it's hard enough to score a goal or get a chance to score, now they waive off tons of goals because of it. wtf.

The only team sport that the USA is #1 is American Football. That somes it up about the competiveness of American athletes. They invented basketball and baseball and they can't even win these events anymore. Cuba is better in baseball, and Argentina, Spain or ****ing Puerto Rico can beat the US team in basketball. Hockey is all Canada or Czech Republic and soccer they are the laughing stock of World Cup. Don't make me start on men's tennis and if it wasn't for the greatest golfer of all times Tiger Woods (who is half Thai) they would be tanked in golf too.

This is true, but Tiger is american and plays for america... Most athletes are half something or another. I agree we americans are slipping in the world rankings in every sport in one way or another...........

I think most Americans don't care about international events is because we know that our professional leagues (MLB, NBA, NHL, and NFL) have the best players in the world in them. It is interesting to see teams from other countries, but because those teams usually include players we already know and like or dislike there is not that much extra motivation to win an international competition. We like to watch the players from each individual league and cheer for them, not for the United States team as a whole. It has nothing to do with thinking other countries are inferior.

I'm a big hockey fan. When I watch the Olympics, I don't care that much if the United States wins it. But I do care if the guys I am a fan of do well. I care if Sergei Gonchar and Evgeni Malkin do well, or if Crosby scores for Canada. The country they play for doesn't really mean anything.

When it comes to NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA and even MLS, players from all over the world try to make it in our leagues. You always hear russians say "my dream to play in NHL all me life" or a Cubian dying to make it in MLB...and so on and so on....Soccer is kind of in it's infancy in the States, thus bring in David Beckham to bring in more interest. I think it's working to an extent.

Personally I like soccer and enjoy watching it (especially the Euro and World Cup).

The easiest answer I have for why Americans (for the most part) dislike soccer:

                                                              Not enough scoring.

Americans need everything to be bigger and "better".

Interesting argument and one that has been used many times in the past, but it doesn't explain the popularity of baseball, a sport where there is also very little scoring, yet each team is able to maintain attendance of, at the very least, 10,000 a game (usually much, much more) over a 162 game schedule over 6-7 months ...

Maybe it's because, at the end of 9 innings of tie baseball, the game isn't decided by a HR hitting contest ... or because the entire defense doesn't run off the field before the pitcher throws the ball to draw on off-sides ... or players don't fall to the ground, acting as if they were killed, and then get back up as soon as they see a yellow or red card have been given ... or because teams don't play for ties in the middle of the game, since there are NO ties ...

Yep, soccer sure is easy to disparage ... it gives me way too much ammo to work with.

It's almost unbearable to watch with guys stepping out of the box and fixing their jock after every f'n pitch. 3 1/2 hour+ games in baseball are a joke. Playoffs excluded... You can't touch the 4 1/2 hours of tension and the intesity of every pitch. But regular season? cmon.

i didn't even have to look at where you are from and i knew right away you were from Europe and not USA. you are biased. your opinion is based on what you have seen growing up. you obviously grew up watching soccer and not much american sports. had you grown up in the USA, i assure you that you would hate soccer and would love NFL and MLB..

94% of non americans hate american sports and they also think that soccer is great.

but if you ask all the americans, they will all tell you soccer sucks BIG TIME, and NFL, MLB and NBA is great.

this argument will never have a right answer. I hate soccer with a passion, but had i grown up in London England, i'd probably love soccer and be the biggest soccer fan out there.
