    Why do Americans DESPISE soccer?.
Today was 2nd biggest soccer game of the year, and no one here cared. there was 2 threads about soccer, including one in game thread, that had 3 responses in it. on a cubs in game thread last week, there was 185 responses.

boys, its sad when i am watching a lousy 1-0 game (atl vs tor) over this game.

this sport sucks and no matter what, americans will never accept soccer in this country.

why do americans hate soccer so much?

It's boring and there really isn't any strategy involved.

        Welcome back Mr Santauro.

They like to be unique. Not one to congregate with the world, I mean, that'd be wrong!

And bad actors. I tried to give it a chance last year and all the diving look like guys being hit by a car. It was just a little to much.

I'm American and don't hate soccer at all - in fact I like it. I think most Americans simply are not exposed to the sport nearly as often as Europeans and thus, they prefer other sports.

boys, this sport is so stupid. you'd think for a sport that attracts billions of people, they'd stop the clock when someone gets hurt, but noooooooooooooooooooooo, the clock keeps ticking and ticking, and then at the end, the ref decides when the added time ends.. so he decides to estimate about when the game will end.. he has to make the assumption.

is it that hard to just stop the freakin clock like hockey, NFL and NBA.. who's the genius that came up with this one. you'd figure after all these years, they'd change this rule. no one knows exactly when a soccer game is over. a ref can call it anytime he wants. how sick is that.

STOP THE CLOCK WHEN SOMEONE GETS HURT FOR CHRIST SAKES.. IS IT THAT HARD TO STOP IT?

The Ref keeps the game going because half the time the players fake injuries.......So instead of having a 4 hour game, the ref takes all the injuries into consideration with the added time........Great system I believe.

Because they don't understand it. Same goes with hockey. I don't understand soccer and rarely watch it. It intrigues me sometimes, but it takes a lot of time to truly understand it.

Yep yep, don't get how anyone can call football boring yet watch baseball and not get bored, or endless breaks in nfl. Don't get me wrong, I love watchin both of them sports, but they don't compare to football at all for entertainment

You have to watch it to get into it. I think it's easily the most exciting sport to watch when you have 2 elite teams playing each other. I'm american, also. It's amazing how difficult the game is to play - the level of toughness, endurance, strength, finesse is unreal. It's also, technically, probably the toughest sport to get good at. Even pros aren't all that technically proficient because it's so difficult - even with all the practice they get.

Watching teams like Spain in this Euro 2008 is a total treat. You get to see a team loaded with superior/elite talent working together with moments of individual brilliance. You just can't beat top level football. IMO, the super bowl is boring by comparison - and I watch almost every single NFL game played every season and have since tivo+the sunday ticket became available.

I'll Bet Mcbain Is Not From North America..

I Will Also Bet That Those Who Say Soccer Is A Great Sport Are From Europe And Other Countries Around The World..

And I Will Bet That Those That Said That Soccer Is Boring Are From North America..

Everyone Is Going With They Know. Europeans Think Soccer Is Great Because It's All They Know. They Don't Understand Nfl Or Mlb Or Nba That Well.. They Only Know Soccer. They Grew Up With It, So They Like It. But If They Grew Up In America, They Would Hate Soccer.

Noone is forcing you to watch it or bet on it. Keep watching and betting your rigged baseball games when "brilliant" managers and pitchers walk the winning run in extra innings. I can't imagine your excitement watching the winning run taking a walk from third base.

I know what you mean. Getting kicked with the steel studs on your shin and ankle, getting stumped on, or getting a gash on your head, eyebrow was all fake today. The blood was grapefruit juice and the bruises and swellings on players legs were orchistrated by UEFA hollywood specialists.

I played soccer in NCAA college and the injuries are real.

At your soccer (football) trainings did you ever do drills or practice diving. It must take a lot of rehearsal to master the art of rolling around on the ground looking like you are dying to try and get a penalty

You try to run the equivalent of 6-8 miles per game wearing studded shoes and try to dribble yourself around 6'-4" 200 lbs guys who their goal is to deny you going by them by any means.

The passing interference rule in football is also ridiculous. Do you see me saying that T.O. or Randy Moss are faking it most of the times? Or how about the stupid tuck rule for the QB's? Or about the flopping of NBA players to win a foul? Or about the hitter leaning toward's the pitch so he can advance when hit by the pitcher?

Give me a sport that pits country against country, with fans whipped into a frenzy and a good chance that all hell is gonna break lose and I'm in. Tell me, how can all the billions of people that watch it and love it be wrong? Its the most recognized and played sport in the world.

I don't consider it a real sport, more along the lines of darts, pool and Scrabble like they show on ESPN from time to time. I don't hate it though, just have no respect for it. I watched a game when we played Italy a few years ago, it was pathetic watching them fall anytime a player slid anywhere even close to them. In fact a player got a GAME MISCONDUCT for just sliding too close to another player, he never touched him!? We played the rest of the game a man short because he got too close. That was the last I ever watched, would rather tune in to spelling bees instead when organized kickball comes on.

i know a ton of basketball players and hockey players friends and ask each one, which is tougher and they all say, hockey by a country mile. try going into the corners and battle for the puck for 30 seconds, you will clutch your heart and collapse. basketball players are hardly sprinting, they walk and jog and pace all game. not hockey.
