Very true but I still consider it taking a chance/risk on a professional hockey career through the major junior route. From my limited experience dealing with major junior, it was a small compensation/fallback plan, such as $5k/year to Toronto U or some other Canadian University. Not knocking Candadian universities in any way, just that if you are American and plan on working in the US, I feel you have a greater chance of getting a good job with an education from a US school.

#113Rod, if ARS Lac St-Louis is your league and you are indeed in the sports etudiants program, how are you 19 years old?
"La région du Lac St-Louis est associé avec trois écoles soit: École secondaire John Rennie, École Secondaire des Sources et le Collège de Montréal"
"The Lac-St-Louis region is associated with three schools: École secondaire John Rennie, École Secondaire des Sources and le Collège de Montréal"
All of those are high schools that go from Secondary 1-5. You graduate secondary 5 when you are 16-17 (depending on birth date) In Quebec.
So either
A) You are lying because you are really a minor
B) You were put back 2-3 years in school
C) You are are not any of the above
In addition I know of no school, secondary or post secondary that has not started by the 3rd week of January (besides some specialized trade schools). My cousins who are still in high school both started by at the latest beginning of the 2nd of week of January.
Rod, you are probably in high school. I have no qualms against that but that would mean the picture you posted of your girlfriend means she is most likely under aged. You can get SBR blacklisted by a bunch of ISPs if it starts getting tagged as a child pornography website.Last edited by mrmarket; 01-24-11, 05:47 PM.Comment -

#117Ok, now you've lost me. I suggest you do some homework into how many Canadians go to US colleges and then feed into the NHL. Good schools to start with are North Dakota, Wisconsin, Boston College and Miami (Ohio). You'll find that your 'nobody' actually equals 'quite a few'.Comment -

#118Well, they're good enough to get drafted to the NHL and actually make a shitload of money in the league. Just from my tiny hometown I can name Ryan and Greg Johnson, Sean Pronger (hell even Chris was going to college and changed his mind at the last minute) and Patrick Sharp. These are just the guys I know. I can only assume there are more I'm forgetting and who came through after I moved away. Keep in mind this is from a town of 150,000 people.Comment -

To be honest with you, not too many NCAAH players actually are overly successful when they turn pro (NHL). Don't get me wrong, there are some great NHL'ers like Toews and Parise, but for the most part, the majority of the players are marginal players. No question, the WHL, OHL and the Q produce the best players/prospects and after that you have the Russian Jr. league and leagues in Sweden and Czech Republic.
The NHAA is getting better, but it's still not there yet.Comment -
