Florida has some nice points too. I'd like the beaches and ocean/ boating that is available. It would be nice to have jai alai available too....but that isn't a moneymaker.

The housing prices are very attractive in LV. Job opportunities suck but this is America. I'd like to do something that gives you benefits haven't worked since 2003.

What have you been doing since 2003 for money? Betting? If so why aren't you still doing it or did you quit all together or why don't you go back, etc....?

If you weren't betting how did you live off of what you had? How were you able to make it 7 years without working, that really good? You must have had quite a bit of money stashed away, still have it? If so move to Vegas and do what you were put on this earth to do.

    Play to your strengths Doug!!

Took a look at the most expensive homes in Vegas just for the fun of it and it seems a lot of them are way way down south. I haven't a clue where these would be but homes with a ton of land are being built down there. Always wonder who these people are that live in these places?

              Fish,

Marriage? Why not? What do you have to lose? You seem like a good couple, happy. Not getting any younger.

We weren't married when we made the move out here but the commitment she showed me by making the move was enough of a reason for me to marry her no questions asked and have never regretted it one second.

Plus in Vegas you can do it and be home by halftime of any game, that is what I did. Left the house, got married, stop and got Fazzoli's takeout on the way home and was back at my computer in less then 2.5 hours. Told you I wasn't much of a romantic, LOL.

Ice: How do you like this house ?

I'm backing off of needing a private pool, much nicer with other people there, IMO. I like a private outdoor hot tub, though. The views on the westside are certainly nice.

Actually Vegas prices now are very close to what Michigan prices were when I was so heavily involved in RE there 3-4 years ago. Now California, thats a whole different story. Still don't know what everyone does out here to afford this.

You are so right about the weather. You can't put into words and describe what almost everyday is like out here. Describing it doesn't do it justice. Now with that said (some are going to laugh about this) I miss rain and fall type weather quite a bit. I love that type weather. Not as much as the weather we are having out here but enough so that I really wished there was more changing of the weather. One guy here in SD said to me when asked about the weather "what weather? we don't have any weather out here it's the same thing everyday, boring" and in a weird way I get what he means. This gets old but with that said nothing brightens you up more then walking otuside and hearing birds chirp, sunshine and having a nice feel of not cold or hot but perfect temperatues.
Funny, you're there, I'm in Vegas these days. My wife and daughter have gone to Mexico to visit family for a month, and my sons have finished HS and moved out of the house, so in the course of a few months my family has evaporated, LOL.

I'm taking advantage of it to spend time here in LV. Poker in SD has really dried up (O'11 isn't half of what it used to be, and neither is Pechanga), so that meant driving to the Commerce every day (I did that before, for years, pre-Moneymaker, pre-NL, to play the 40 there) or coming here. Obv, I chose the latter. I've always liked Vegas poker. Plenty of games for a 2/5-5/10 player like me, and they're no tougher than those in CA (differently tough, but not tougher). I like the physical niceness of the V, the B and Aria. They are pleasant places to play.

In fact, I went ahead and got a room here and will keep it through football season, going home every midweek.

Like you I don't have use for Vegas the rest of the year for sportsbetting, but I like it here in FB season, and I hardly know why. Gets me focused, I guess. Something in the air. And I actually will make some B&M bets because it's more feasible with a whole week to do it. Daily action sports are too much of a grind here--I've done it, and feel like a chicken with it's head cut off sometimes, rushing around like a crazy man--but once in a while driving some place to pick up an extra half point on a FB game, sure, I like that. Especially because, playing cards at the V, I like to break every few hours anyway and stretch my legs, and checking lines at the Wynn, TI, Mirage, Harrah's or the V itself is a good excuse for that, all while keeping an eye on offshore lines on my ITouch. Very chill gambling experience.

BTW, I made it out to Summerlin for the first time ever a few weeks ago to visit the Schwab office. Pretty nice area. Normal, even. If I was going to live here (other than just coming here by myself to gamble I mean) I think that's where I'd be.

I'm amazed at how many of you wiseguy sportsbettors don't play poker, video poker, and/or blackjack.....especially you Ice.

I gave Ice that same speech, about poker, anyway. Just playing solid fundamentally tight poker will enable him to beat 1/2 and pick up cash during down times. But the guy works so hard at SB that he might not HAVE any down time.

No doubt poker is something I should pick up. I honestly have at least a good 15 poker books I have bought over the years. Not even sure why I guess for a lot of reasons but to get a not only to get a feel for different ways to play but just to read anything gambling relasted. I am a sucker for gambling books and without there being many good sports betting books to read I will instead read poker and even horse racing books which are suprisingly very well written, IMO. Probably all these books have done though is confuse me even more.

I have had a plan for the longest to head out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and play 9pm-3am or so against the tourists exactly like PJ said very tight fundamental poker not sure how long a strategy like that would take for someone to learn how to play it well enough to win. If I ever would have had a mentor type I would have probably been a heck of a student because I am quite sure I would go balls to the wall once I felt like I was improving but driving up there at nights close to bedtime to do something i am not sure I am good at, not probably going too happen

Fish, I am patiently waiting for team ice-fish to hit the VP machines. You are the teacher and I am your last student with this. I am ready to start class until then I am not messing with it.

Here is my thoughts with poker: much like the stock market I am extremely intimidated by it these days. With all the young guns out there nowadays, traninig devices, etc... in my opinion the game is probably harder to beat then ever before but easier to learn to play well also I guess. Maybe I am giving way too much credit to the bad players. Maybe the 1-2 game hasn't changed much the past 20 years like the upper linits have. So with that being the case I start to ask myself "why should I win? what edge would I have?" Like with stocks, in reality you are going head to head with educated guys who a lot have had lots training. I actually psych myself out a bit. Where with sports I know if I do all the little things like work hard I will be fine because 95% of the sports betting people aren't doing that. I hm confdient cause I feel I know how to do this. It's weird cause sometimes I actually think do I bet sports cause they are sports and I grew up watching them, claim to be a hige fan, etc? Sure but A lot of the times the answer is no because I know most sports fans are lousy sports bettors and also I usually don't form many opinions when watching a game (unless a halftime play which isn't often). The reason why is not only doing the little things like line shopping, betting early and all that stuff but mainly its cause I know what and where to look for stuff to get me a step ahead of the other competition and with poker or stocks I just think I am so damn far behind or at the very best not in the upper class of players to be ahead, it's almost like I feel I don't "deserve" to win at it. Does that make sense? Where with the sports betting market I feel it's very beatable. Bottom line you manage your risk in both and go from there.
