Lakers Are Interested In Russell Westbrook

According to a recent report, the Los Angeles Lakers have discussed the possibility of packaging a few key players together in a potential sign-and-trade deal for Washington Wizards star point guard Russell Westbrook.

“There have also been talks about Washington Wizards star Russell Westbrook being a potential candidate to move back home to Los Angeles in a sign-and-trade deal that could include free agent point guard Dennis Schroder, forward Kyle Kuzma and guard Talen Horton-Tucker, sources said,” wrote Marc J. Spears of the Undefeated.

The report likely comes as a major surprise to many fans, as a trade for Westbrook would presumably be one of the biggest deals of the offseason. A trio of Westbrook, LeBron James and Anthony Davis would be a force to be reckoned with.

Despite getting a great deal of criticism over the first couple of months of the 2020-21 season, Westbrook proved this past year that he is still one of the greatest point guards in the NBA. He averaged a triple-double for the fourth time in his career, posting 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game.

Westbrook could be the playmaker that the Lakers need. He is one of the best facilitators in the league, and the Lakers need a player to fill that role.

Westbrook hasn’t worked with any star since KD left. Westbrook may actually be the problem and not the answer.

For what they need and on the timeline of James career it would be a good move. The lakers aren’t playing for youth

Man, I hope this happens...just to see the look on Lebron's face the first time Westbrook ignores his calls for the ball and fires up a bad 3 or wrestles a rebound away from him.

Chris Paul makes more sense. Don't think he wants to go back to the Suns -they had a cinderella run but he's not stupid.

Every time the Lakers try to bring in older superstars they get burnt. Karl Malone, Steve Nash, and even Dwight Howard when he played with Kobe. Bringing in Chris Paul now would be another injury disaster in the making.

As it stands now keeping Lebron and AD healthy will be a miracle next year. AD is always injury prone. Lebron is old and getting injuries now also.

Vogel likely prefers Westbrick. He loves that smash mouth style. No finesse just beat teams over the head with physicality. That's kinda how the finals played out too... head down and attack the basket over & over.

CP3 was lucky his shoulder injury didn't keep him out of these playoffs entirely. God blessed him with that.

CP3 gets injured almost as often as AD now..

If Chris Paul isn't really injured he fakes it half the time anyways ..

Might Leonard sign with the Lakers?

Reckon they could free up space with a fire sale if he stated his interest. Lakers crashed out in the 1st round this past playoffs so maybe he thinks he can sign there and not be labelled a coward?

this team has a spacing problem & Russ does not solve that whatsoever.

they don't need a star point guard. just someone capable who can knock down 3 point shots at a high clip and create plays when AD or LBJ are not in the game/getting doubled.

Goran Dragic would be a perfect fit.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a major decision to make this offseason at point guard, but it appears they are ready to move on from Dennis Schroder.

According to Marc Stein, Schroder wants a major deal this offseason, but Los Angeles doesn’t view him in the same light.

“The easiest thing would be re-signing Dennis Schröder, but Dennis Schröder wants crazy money,” Stein said. “Dennis Schröder thinks he’s a $100 million player. He’s already turned down an extension in the $80 millions, and the vibe from the Lakers really is, I think they’d rather move on from Schröder. I don’t think they see Schröder as a starter. I think they like him as a Sixth Man, but they want something more out of their main backcourt guy.”

The Lakers acquired Schroder last offseason in a deal that sent Danny Green to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but things didn’t go as planned.

During the 2020-21 season, Schroder averaged 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from 3.

It’s possible the Lakers explore a sign-and-trade option with Schroder this offseason in order to help fill the void at guard.

Terrible fit and not enough cap room.

Westbrook needs it to be about him. Lebron is a self absorbed pig. It would never work.

The Lakers, not satisfied with their first-round playoff exit in 2021, are apparently on the hunt for some shooting help in the offseason.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Los Angeles has talked with the Kings about trading for shooting guard Buddy Hield, in a deal that would possibly see L.A. reserve power forward Kyle Kuzma headed to Sacramento. Charania adds that the Lakers have talked to several teams about moving Kuzma.

Hield, 28, had a stellar season in Sacramento, averaging 16.6 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 3.6 APG, with a slash line of .406/.391/.846.

Meanwhile, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report tweets that a deal may not be officially completed until the new league year begins next week. It could grow into a larger multi-team trade during free agency, Fischer suggests.

Lakers will be playing some old school basketball with that line up assuming they still have Drummond! Rare to see a modern NBA team get all their points in the paint.
