Good information Franz. I read through and agree with plenty of your forecasts. As we all know only a big nation wins this tournament but the money can be made in the group stages with upsets and totals.
A few things I have noticed
Portugal to win this tournament has dropped allot. They have a great side but they need to find a way to get Ronaldo out of the team.
Japan and Columbia are good longshots to make a run to the qfs. Japan play a high pressure game that gives European teams big problems. Columbia is a very good team that is strong on the ball.
I have three potential group winners as upsets
Japan +250
Columbia+200
Ecuador+320
I also don't like this Argentina team they have talent and togetherness but my thinking is they go out at the first elimination hurdle. They might not even win that group. I like Austria to possibly escape the group in first place they offer a good counterattack and a solid manager to prep them but the+390 is high.
As for winning the tournament your Germany odds have gone up to+1600 not a good sign.
I had some good thoughts on the dutch but they have strikers that miss too many chances.
Norway has too much hype they have a good squad not sure if they can hold up in the heat.
I would never discount Brazil coached by Ancelotti. They still have some good players and it's the anniversary of the USA tournament for them.
France are stacked but I really don't want them there again. Spain is the obvious favorite but hopefully they don't win. England has a legitimate shot if they get a few breaks which they usually don't. It would be funny to see them win on the USA 250 year anniversary.
Good luck on the tournament.

I rarely watch the halftime shows. Great opportunity to prep meals , go for a dip in the pool , get a cold beer for the 2nd half.....

The hosts are fielding one of the most talented sides they have ever produced. With coach Pochettino having a limited amount of time to select and prepare this team for a major tournament , they are starting to show signs of a united front. Several key players are honing their talents in Europe with top tier clubs, and those experiences will bode well as this tournament progresses. Potentially missing today for Paraguay, due to an injury acquired in a friendly against Nicaragua , is key midfielder Julio Enciso. With Paraguay's transfer value estimated at $154 mill ( compared to $ 386 mill for the US ), Enciso is $25 mill of that total. The weather at kickoff in Inglewood , Cal is 23c / 73f and sunny.

I think Morocco has a shot to win their group as well although the odds were like +500/+600 a bit ago and have gone way down and I'm seeing +350 now at BOL. This Brazil team is overrated and weak in the midfield.

Saw that as well. Not sure if Paraguay have any injury update on midfielder Ensino ? No official line ups for a while
Canada is over bet imo.
You know I'm cheering hard for our boys , just not betting on it at those odds.
Enjoy and GO CANADA

as a lot have said before thanks for your insights! much appreciated! My dad is from Hungary..(yes he is still hopeful they will qualify again) and played soccer... one of his favorite times...... the world cup....
okay short story.... from years ago... Dad would have his vacation around this time every year..... I remember "world cup soccer" was an after thought to America for a long time. I was probably 12ish at the time.
Mom was at work(before our vacation) . Dad would give me some money for lunch to buy subway sandwiches... off I went .....
We would watch world cup soccer on the Spanish channel...... and I would wait for the famous words "goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Funny how you remember things from the past yet I struggle to remember names....

Off topic, but I believe the reason some people have trouble retaining names is due to the way some brains lay down memories. If there is something meaningful to attach the memory to, like how much your father enjoyed that time, the other stuff attaches off that. But generally names have no tangible meaning or attachment to anything so unless you go out of your way to associate the name with something as you learn it, it just won't stick.
