European teams showed up the last few days. South America still have traditional power teams rolling along. I still feel like a surprise team will get on a run. Japan ? Egypt ? Morocco ? Australia ?

#433The post I replied to specifically stated it was to keep players safe. I personally think it does ZERO to keep the players safe is why I was moved to reply to him.Originally posted by franz555If a thunderstorm is approaching during a soccer game, the referee or match officials will immediately stop play, and all players and spectators must seek safe shelter, such as a sturdy building or vehicle. Play can only resume 30 minutes after the last lightning strike or thunderclap is detected
The files that came up from Europe, and all other continents , was too large to share here. It cited many examples of games delayed across Europe for that very reason. It is for the safety of the players and spectators. We have also seen it during the NCAA Football playoffs recently as well. Just google that very question " What are the official rules regarding a thunderstorm during a soccer game ". Its a Global Rule.
But whatever Google told you I guarantee you it's not a global rule that is followed in A-League or other Aussie sporting events. And I have been told by other foreigners from multiple other places that they think the same as me about USA sports doing this. There must be a Brit around here who will confirm that.
The US policy has definitely been different to (almost?) everywhere else for a long time. If FIFA has decided it is their global rule, it must have just happened for this tourney at a guess. And if so, it's even more annoying that this silliness is spreading to other countries.
Can you find any instance ever where a player was struck inside a major stadium? I don't think you can.
I also don't think you can point out any European game in a major stadium like we are playing at this WC that was stopped for a lightning strike 20 miles away with 30 minute delay periods for each one detected.
It's just not a thing that actually happens.
Anyway, my beef is mainly with NASCAR doing this. The ONLY time anyone has been struck by lightning at a NASCAR event was specifically when fans were told to leave the stands and proceeded to get struck in the car park. The stands have lightning rods and are grounded. The people would have never been hurt if they stayed there.

#435Australia A League soccer rules regarding thunder and lightning state that matches are halted and immediately suspended if lightning is noted within a designated proximity of the stadium ( typically within 10 - 13 km's ). FIFA , THE WORLD GOVERNING SOCCER BODY , also has the same rules and regulations regarding lightning. I can give you a series of games from this past season in A League soccer where the league instituted the rule stated above. You can continue to deny , or just look up the FIFA ans A League rule regarding thunder and lightning.Originally posted by Optional

#438Ronaldo is -175 to score tomorrow.
He's not getting benched.
Be a blowout similar to Spain after 0-0
The group stages are pointless at this point.

#443Todays games :
Portugal NEED this win , and I believe starting Ronaldo is a detriment to the team. If you watch videos of his antics off the ball , its readily apparent that he plays for himself and not the team. Crazy , over inflated line , so i will pass unless Martinez makes changes up front.
England look very solid from top to bottom , so this should be a one sided affair from start to finish. The line has already factored their dominance into it. Probably a pass as well.
I really liked Croatia -1 @ 1.98 2 days ago , that # is now in the 1.78 range.
The Colombia / DR Congo game later tonight has some merit as I think Colombia can come away with all 3 points.
My 2 favorite games today are played locally by my 4 year old grandson and his 6 year old sister. Thats where I will be , cheering them on.
GL to all

Hardest part is making sure the Goalie stays alert and watches the game and not pick grass.
