This is the best place that explains everything in excrutiating detail.
Steelers chances are extremely slim, but there are some shots:
1. Ravens & Texans lose, Steelers win and they are in.
2. Jets & Texans lose, Steelers win and they are in.
3. Jets, Ravens & Broncos lose, Steelers win and they are in.
So, the Steelers really need two of three teams to lose. (Jets, Texans, Ravens). Even then, if those two teams happen to be the Jets & Ravens, then the Broncos also need to lose to help the Steelers get in.Comment -

It must have something to do with the fact that the Broncos are the #5 seed at this moment, if the season ended today, but they don't control their own destiny getting into the playoffs. (But the #6 Jets and #7 Ravens do control their own destiny.) Wierd!Comment -

#118wrong. If the jets & ravens lose, but the texans and broncos win, the steelers can't get in. I know it's confusing, but it's an obscure tiebreaker sequence that figures in that situation. It must have something to do with the fact that the broncos are the #5 seed at this moment, if the season ended today, but they don't control their own destiny getting into the playoffs. (but the #6 jets and #7 ravens do control their own destiny.) wierd!Comment -

#120Tell ya what, imagine that it comes down to Sunday night with the Steelers needing the Jets to lose to get in. Do you think Cincy is going to lift a finger to help the Steelers get in and possibly have to play them in the playoffs the following week?Comment -

#121slacker, its funny cause if they lose, they play jets again a week later, i think bengals would wanna beat the jets, cause steelers would be the 6 ne way
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh clinches a playoff spot with:
1. PIT win + HOU loss or tie + NYJ loss or tie OR
2. PIT win + HOU loss or tie + BAL loss or tie OR
3. PIT win + NYJ loss or tie + BAL loss or tie + DEN loss or tieComment -

HTH, they beat them, but that only matters if they're the only teams with that record.
Head to head is thrown out the window if 3+ teams are tied.
The tiebreakers are pretty simple, but every year people misunderstand them.[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual

#128The Steelers have to root for two teams that each has won its respective division. That is not exactly a good thing -- and not because the Patriots and Bengals are teams that the Steelers do not particularly like. If the Steelers beat the Dolphins on Sunday, they get into the AFC playoffs as a wild card if the Patriots and Bengals also win. The problem for the Steelers: if the Patriots beat the Texans in a 1 p.m. game, the Bengals will have nothing to play for in their 8:20 p.m. game against the Jets and may rest many of their key starters. The Patriots and Bengals are each 10-5. If each finishes with an 11-5 record, New England will get the No. 3 seed over Cincinnati in the AFC playoffs ..."Comment -

#129"When it comes to NFL coaches, only Bill Belichick may be more reviled among Steelers fans than Jim Caldwell these days. Caldwell's decision to yank his starters in the third quarter of a game that the Colts were leading Sunday may have also pulled the plug on the Steelers' season. Had the Colts beaten the Jets -- and it's hard to envision that not happening had the incomparable Peyton Manning been allowed to finish what he started -- the Steelers would have had a much easier path to the playoffs. All they would have had to do is beat the Dolphins and have the Patriots beat the Texans. True, New England has already clinched the AFC East title but Belichick is the anti-Caldwell.Comment -
